Masks Could Become Illegal In North Carolina (Again) Under KKK-Inspired Law
Source: Huffington Post
North Carolina lawmakers attempted in the early hours of Friday morning to undermine the Democratic governors announcement that face coverings would be required in public to stem the spread of COVID-19.
Since the 1950s, North Carolina has banned mask-wearing in public, a law aimed at members of the Ku Klux Klan. That law ran up against guidelines to keep people safe from the coronavirus, and earlier this year, the state voted to exempt citizens from the law until Aug. 1. But when Democratic lawmakers attempted to extend that exemption, Republicans blocked the effort at around 2 a.m., despite an increased number of cases in the state.
Democrats say that North Carolina Republicans are invoking the law in an effort to undermine Democratic Gov. Roy Coopers face mask mandate, set to go into effect on Friday.
They are totally out of touch with the problems facing their state, engaged in needless partisan battles while their constituents are looking for real leadership during this crisis, Jessica Post, Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee president, said in a statement on Friday.

(75 posts)pretty much this. My hatred knows no bounds, and yet I'm not surprised by anything I read these days...this included. They are ALL in on the dumbest death cult ever.
Sad part is: think of what other countries and former allies think of when reading about this utter SHIT show? Pisses me right off.

(16,846 posts)the answer is to repeal the law. I haven't been to NC for several years, but I don't think they have such a problem with Klansmen up there nowadays.

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/05/11/white-house-issues-memo-requiring-staff-to-wear-masks-in-west-wing.html
... The directive from the White House management office was laid out in a memo to staffers Monday afternoon, NBC reported. ... The memo also asked staff members to avoid visiting the West Wing, where the Oval Office is located, unless it is necessary, the sources told NBC.
Something to keep in mind when some fuckhead harasses you about wearing a mask -- if they're so ineffective or the Covid19 is just a hoax, or if only wimps wear them, then why does your fearless leader require everyone near him to wear a mask? Why is he wimpifying his staff -- and by extension himself?

(2,227 posts)The KKK inspired North Carolina republican white supremacists lawmakers are using a 1950 law that made the wearing of masks by KKK members illegal, to "own" the Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper, thereby preventing him from requiring citizens of North Carolina to wear masks for the prevention of spreading the Coronavirus.

(10,303 posts)I'll be wearing an "antiviral filtration device". I'll define a "mask" as a covering for the entire face. These "antiviral filtration devices" (which are widely available everywhere) do not cover the entire face and allow for iris recognition.
Failing that I'll wear a bandana.

Or perhaps as basmati-rice pudding with pistachios and rose water.

(10,303 posts)... then anything is possible.
Can the contraption prevent X amount of droplets from your breath from travelling more than 1 foot away from your body?
My point is this - if the law prevents me from doing something like wear a mask for public health because the law was intended to prohibit people from disguising themselves then I have to redefine the "mask" I'm wearing to ensure that I'm obeying the letter of the law, even though I'm obeying the spirit of the law by not disguising myself as say, a KKK member.

Today while I was out getting gas and groceries, I noticed just about everybody I saw was obeying the Gov Coopers order to wear masks....It was great to see. Also saw several stupid people that follow trumpster and the NC GOP not wearing a face mask....
