Patrick Murphy Leads Allen West By Nine Points: Dem Poll

Source: Huffington Post

WASHINGTON -- Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) is trailing his Democratic challenger Patrick Murphy by nine points, according to a new Democratic poll.

The poll, conducted by Garin-Hart-Yang Research on Sept. 26-27, found that 52 percent of those surveyed support Murphy, compared to 43 percent for West, a Tea Party favorite. The margin widened even more among Independents: 58 percent said they backed Murphy versus 40 percent supporting the freshman Republican.

The poll surveyed 401 likely voters in Florida's 18th District and has a margin of error of 4.9 percent.

"It's clear that with his extreme, offensive rhetoric and record, Allen West is turning off voters all across the spectrum," said Alixandria Lapp, executive director of House Majority PAC, which released the poll on Monday. The PAC is currently airing its second TV ad against West as part of a $1.5 million TV buy in the district.

1. When West used Murphy's mug shot from fourteen years ago after he was arrested in

Miami Beach, that was enough for a lot of people. Most of us, at one time or another, have had a friend, relative, child or even ourselves at one point in life, come up close and personal with the law. West insulted a lot of people with that ad. People make mistakes, they learn from them and move on to become viable and productive citizens. Patrick Murphy is one of them.

If West wants to "go there" let us discuss his military record and why he was booted out. As President Clinton might say, he's got a lot of brass ones.

5. West attacks Murphy for an incident in 2003 when Murphy was 19 years old.

Funny thing is that also in 2003, West--as a 42 year old lieutenant colonel charged with the command of American lives--engages in an act of torture on an Iraqi detainee, thus placing his own men at risk and being charged with violations of the UCMJ.

A 19 year old college kid "verbally assaulting" (read: cursing at) a police officer versus a 42 year old having an Iraqi police officer physically assaulted and then placing his head in a bucket and discharging his firearm directly next to his head. Which do you think reflects more on the man's actual character?

4. It's an internal poll, so take it as you will....

.....however, I think it's hilarious that the West campaign immediately poo-pooed the results of Murphy's internal poll as being fatally biased, and then simultaneously turns around to West's own internal poll and claims they have the lead.

Ultimately though the more crazy and desperate Allen West is revealed to be, the better it is for Murphy.

Now it makes sense that he is using a mugshot of his opponent in a campaign ad.

and probably doesn't need to be in any leadership position.

Getting rid of him would be best for the country, but he'll be back before long.
