As four states hit new highs in daily coronavirus cases, Pence postpones two campaign events

Vice President Pence postponed planned campaign events in Arizona and Florida next week “out of an abundance of caution” amid spikes in coronavirus cases in those states, a Trump-Pence reelection campaign official said Saturday.

Meanwhile, the grim reality of the virus continued to batter states facing rising infections, with Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Nevada hitting new highs in daily cases reported, while Arizona set a record on current hospitalizations. More than 42,000 new cases have been reported nationally as of late Saturday afternoon, the second day in a row that new cases have risen above 40,000.

The numbers come as officials across the country moved to slow their reopenings, with beaches in Florida’s Miami-Dade County closing over the Fourth of July weekend.

Facing a surge of new coronavirus cases, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) expressed regret for allowing bars to reopen so early, saying Friday that he did not realize how fast the virus would spread.

7. He cared, but he cared a lot more about what the bidnessmen

who put him into office cared about, and that was getting their gravy train on track again.

Lockdown was only a delaying tactic. In some cases, it worked, giving hospitals a little time to figure out what worked (dexamethasone) and what didn't work (choroquine, hydroxychloroquine). In other ways, it was utterly wasted since NIH and CDC funding weren't increased and seed money for new PPE manufacturers never materialized, and we all know how well test and trace was instituted.

So kids, we are now fucked. The time we bought the country was largely wasted by men like Abbott who listened to businessmen and tuned out epidemiologists and by DC, where we largely no longer have a government, at all.
