Westboro Baptist Church attendee seeks seat on Kansas education board

Source: Kansas City Star

Jack Wu isn’t shy about his beliefs.

Topeka is evil. Harry Potter promotes witchcraft. Christmas trees are pagan idols. Cancer is a judgment from God. And the teaching of evolution should be rooted out of Kansas schools because it’s a satanic lie.

He also believes that America’s public schools are cultivating a culture of “liars, thieves, murderers and perverts.”

Outside the mainstream? It doesn’t matter to Wu, running for a seat on the Kansas Board of Education.

"Born in Taiwan and raised in a San Francisco suburb, Wu moved to Topeka in 2008 after learning about Westboro on an Internet message board.

Wu said he was drawn to the church’s all-or-nothing message of obey God or else. Westboro stands apart, he said, because its congregation confronts issues of heaven, hell and eternal fate. He believes Westboro preaches the Bible accurately and hasn’t watered down its message.

Church spokesman Jonathan Phelps, the son of the church’s leader, said he didn’t know much about Wu. He sees Wu at church most Sundays.

“It seems like he believes what he says,” Phelps said. “I think he’s a nice guy.”

Jack Wu in all his glory

Ironically, I was just watching this series on youtube YESTERDAY LOL

Louis Theroux did one of his documentaries on the Westboro incest cult and Jack is in it!

It's like his second visit to the "church" and he's not a member yet LOL. I guess they took him into the fold after all and you "can" convert people LOL

Watch the first three minutes of this, or the whole series (parts 1-5) on youtube of "America's Most Hated Family in Crisis"

The Democrat, Carolyn Campbell, is the incumbent for the district, but boundary changes have made it a little more Republican, the article says. She beat a Republican 55% to 45% in 2008.

I think she's wise to mention Westboro - their picketing of funerals, including military, should put off swing voters, I hope.

I support this free speech 100%. It lets us know who the crazies are.

Keep an eye on if he gets any endorsements, none yet. I would like to know what groups share his beliefs as well.

And when Brownback's new no tax plan for corps. and citizens kicks in, as the solid conservative republican teabagger majority in this states kicks in, you'll likely see the first theocratic dystopian state. Then, Brownback plans to run for president again on this platform of how great the Kansas economy will become.
