AUDIENCE BOOS SCOTT BROWN FOR NAMING SCALIA AS MODEL JUSTICE | Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA) was booed by the audience at the second Massachusetts Senate Debate on Monday evening, after he named conservative Justice Antonin Scalia as his model Supreme Court justice. Upon hearing the crowds reaction, he quickly added Justices Anthony Kennedy, Sonia Sotomayor, and Chief Justice John Roberts to his list. Thats the beauty of being an independent, Brown quipped.

Scott Brown Really Shot Himself In The Foot When He Said Justice Scalia Was His 'Model' Supreme Court Justice
Massachusetts Democratic Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren covered her face as the crowd booed her challenger, Republican Scott Brown. Brown had just hailed Justice Antonin Scalia as his "model" Supreme Court justice, and Warren was already using the opportunity to pounce.
During a contentious second Massachusetts Senate debate, Brown went through a wild swing of opinions when moderator David Gregory asked him his "model" justice.
"Let me see, here. That's a great question," Brown said. "I think Justice Scalia is a very good judge."
The crowd at the debate immediately booed, and Warren began to cover up her face, perhaps realizing her challenger's mistake.

in their own righteousness and infallibility that they
don't realize how their opinions and ideology will be
viewed by the public.
Such a hubris leads to hoof-in-mouth disease.
And while Massachusetts may elect an occasional Republican,
moreso than it used to, there is still a liberal slant.
This could be the straw.
Brown must go. What a pretender.

(1,201 posts)Does that mean that Scott Brown also holds an extremely radical view of the constitution and thinks that an "activist judge" is any judge who holds a view contrary to conservatism? What a terrible answer! Let's hope Mittens says something equally stupid in the first presidential debate on Wednesday night!

Arrogant aggrandizing jackass is what he is. The Supreme court was put together to guard against the very thing the right side of that court are doing on a grand stand...POLITICIZING!
They are supposed to protect the American people from government overstepping it's purpose... to be for and by the people.

Uncle Joe
(58,365 posts)so he tried to camouflage his exposed, butt naked, extremist first instinct by naming the other Justices as well, particularly Sotomayor in an attempt to obfuscate his radical subconscious judicial/political perspective.
Even Rove dance partner David Gregory; knew Brown was just trying to use evasion after his initial disastrous answer by trying to get him to limit his answer to just one Justice.
If the audience had cheered the Scalia answer, I don't believe Brown would have named anyone else.
Thanks for the thread, kpete.

(12,545 posts)Really, Scalia? Nino The Fixer? The guy who issued the stay that stopped the Florida recount and gave us the most corrupt Bush cartel and should have been impeached for conflict of interest is the worst Supreme Court justice in History. The guy whose stock answer when confounded is "It's not in the Constitution." should never have been appointed. Hey Nino, the United States Air Force isn't in the Constitution.
Scott Brown has to be a major league douche bag.

-- "I voted 50% with the republicans and 50% with the democrats."
Pure fiction. It is more like 75% with Republicans -- 90% whenever
they tried to block legislation and/or filibustered. Warren needs to
state the facts, and comment on how his voting tendencies changed
after she entered the race for his seat.
-- "I'm an independent voice."
Says who? The last time I checked, there was an "R" after his name, but
you'll never hear him say "I'm a republican".
Warren needs to dispel these talking points every time he pushes them.
If folks in Massachusetts know the truth, she will win easily because Obama
has a 60% claim in the polls. If someone is voting for Obama, he/she
should NOT be voting for Brown. Brown contributes to all the impasses.
AND ANOTHER THING -- Whenever he pulls that brow-beating, bully
routine, she needs to call him on it. Such as, "I don't speak down to you,
I would appreciate it if you acted the same way to me." (asshole)
So Sayeth The King.

(18,652 posts)so he is totally BS-ing. Barney said that when the news got out, Scottie modified a bit but he's basically a RW conservative, no "independence" about him.
King_Klonopin
(1,306 posts)He voted with repubs 30/32 times when blocking legislation or filibustering dems.
So, he is more of an "obstructionist" than an "independent".
On total roll call votes, he was around 74% -- until Warren announced her
intention to run. That's when he started voting with dems on selective bills --
BUT he always votes in the interests of corporations and banking, and voted
with dems only when it was necessary to conceal his true political stripes and
prevent repercussions from the Mass. voting public.
Wolf in sheep's clothing.
