Source: Los Angeles Times

Reports of a possible active shooter at a U.S. Marine Corps base in Twentynine Palms spread across social media Tuesday morning.

Several calls to the base went unanswered, but the branch said in a statement that it was aware of the reports and was monitoring the situation.

"Military police responded to reports of gunshots at approximately 0630 and cordoned the area," the Marine Corps said in a tweet. "We cannot confirm a suspect in custody at this time."

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department received word of some kind of incident at the base, but spokeswoman Cindy Bachman said she did not have additional details.
