Teachers union president dares Trump to sit in classroom amid coronavirus 'and breathe that air'

Source: The Hill

The president of the nation’s largest teachers’ union hit back at President Trump over his demand that schools resume in-person classes this fall, saying reopening cannot take place without guaranteeing the safety of students and staff.

“Did you hear the word he didn’t use? ‘Safely,'” National Education Association (NEA) President Lily Eskelsen Garcia said Wednesday in reference to Trump’s event the previous day on reopening schools.

“There’s no one that wants our kids back more than teachers ... but we want to open it safely,” she said on CNN’s “New Day.”

“We see what happens when they let bars open prematurely,” she added, noting spikes in coronavirus community spread in states that were quick to reopen. “This isn’t a bar. We’re talking about second graders. I had 39 sixth graders one year in my class. I double dog dare Donald Trump to sit in a class of 39 sixth graders and breathe that air without any preparation for how we’re going to bring our kids back safely.”

Invite Dumpy to spend an entire day in a stuffy classroom with 39 elementary age children with no protection.

Hey,he might even learn something.

And get Congress off their duffs to provide extra funding for protective measures. They can dole it out to Kanye West, they can dole it out to our public schools.

I have SO much respect for your posts, but really?

"Hey, he might even learn something."

You stand a better chance of having a "snow-free" winter in Ohio! (come to think of it, with BunkerBoy's "climate-change policies" (sic) you probably DO stand a good chance of that!).

just Petri Dishes waiting for new Speciems. First off,how many have up to date Air exchange systems that are Filleted? Hell,here in the Desert,the first month of school is plagued by Mechanical Breakdowns and the Kids and teachers are in 90 degree classrooms,just what could go wrong with that picture.

Here is the real sad part,most of the Southwest practices,stack them deep and teach them cheap. Just what the hell could possible go wrong with that?

Superb question!

I would no more feed my kids into that COVID meat grinder than I would put myself in there, if they were still of school-age.

Unless you WANT the virus to spread through these states and kill more people. Some of those slated to die this way will be trump supporters, you know.

8. Someone in the MSM needs to ask him just that:
Wed Jul 8, 2020, 01:16 PM
Jul 2020

"Mr. President, umm, sir, sir, when will you be sitting in at a school after the reopening, in a regular classroom, sir, I mean with coughing and sneezing children all around you, none of them wearing masks, sir, when will you schedule a day or, better still, several days, in schools in different parts of the country, in city schools, in country schools, in private schools, sir, when?"

Because if he won't do it, it's because he knows that ordering schools to reopen is a death sentence for teachers and support staff as well as for some of the children. And he also knows -- or god damn him if he remains ignorant of the fact that -- many of the people he condemns to unsafe classrooms who contract the disease and do not die will, nevertheless, carry debilitating and lasting side effects with them to the detriment of their health and life expectancy -- even the youngest of the children. And whether despite knowing the dangers or through willful and spiteful ignorance of those dangers, Trump will be responsible for every episode of covid19 emerging from schools that open too early, for every lingering side effect, for every death.

Maybe the MSM has to get on him about this, or on any of his spokes-zombies at the very least.

If he thinks it's all malarkey (as my favorite current presidential candidate might say) then he should sit in on classes in the fall, just sit there, amid the talk, the spittle, the coughing and the snot sprays! And, yes, he should take members of his cabinet with him to sit there, unmasked and inhaling deeply beside His Gross and Diapered Rotundity. (I know I'm stealing here. Jefferson's people referred to the chubby Adams as "His Rotundity", but Trump is just so much more than that!)

Virtually every known germ in existence floated around the classrooms constantly. There was no avoiding it.
Coronavirus is even more contagious than most of those germs.

* handling all their paperwork and other class materials.
* helping to clean up their puke, pee and poop when they have accidents.
* handling their dirtied clothes when they have accidents.
* leading them in crowded hallways and lunchrooms to/from class and to exits.
* taking sick individuals to the school nurse and unruly kids to the office.
* interfacing with parents that refuse to follow pandemic safety rules.

Our stable genius;

With his demand for early re-opening, he tried to kill our elderly parents;

Now with his demand for school opening, he is planning to kill our children and elderly parents that survived the early re-opening;

Then with the school opening, then he will be able to kill the adults that go back to work (at no liability to the corporations);

Putin will be so proud, he is well on his way to destroying this nation without firing a shot;

And, the Evangelicals (Trump’s biggest supporters) - what can you say - if only the Covid-19 openings results affected them and not the rest of us.
