#Goyaway: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Julián Castro lead calls to boycott Goya Foods after CEO's praise for Donald Trump
Jessica Flores, USA TODAY 5 hrs ago
The CEO of Goya Foods, which bills itself as the country's largest Hispanic-owned food company, praised President Donald Trump during a visit to the White House on Thursday.
Social backlash followed.
The hashtags #Goyaway and #BoycottGoya soon began trending on Twitter, while some Latinos also expressed disappointment with the CEO's praise for a president who they say continuously attacks Latinos.
"We're all truly blessed at the same time to have a leader like President Trump, who is a builder," CEO Robert Unanue said during a speech after a roundtable with Trump and other Hispanic leaders.
Unanue is "praising a president who villainizes and maliciously attacks Latinos for political gain," Julián Castro, who served as Housing and Urban Development secretary in the Obama administration, said on Twitter.
"Oh look, it's the sound of me Googling 'how to make your own Adobo,'" U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said on Twitter, later sharing an alternative recipe to the Adobo seasoning, which is part of the Goya brand a well-known Latino household item..................................

(42,862 posts)... a dozen boxed and seasoned rice varieties, a 10 pound bag of Goya jasmine rice, spice blends, mango juice, olive oil, beans and more beans. At the beginning of Covid sheltering, I stocked up.
At least he only praised one Donald Trump, rather than smearing and being dismissive EVERY gay family... the way that chairman Guido Barilla when he rebuked gay families on national radio.
My sons still won't buy Barilla products even though the company has (apparently) made great strides forward.

(26,501 posts)you can taste nothing but that. I wasn't huge fan of this product before but she helped put me over the top. My mom would use it a lot more sparingly. But anyway, Accent makes a better sazón. That's the one most people used when I was a kid.

(10,013 posts)Just bought black beans and chickpeas yesterdayBushs, than goodness. I believe boycotts help. When companies know theyre being boycotted and their sales decline, they know why. Unfortunately, it probably just results in companies changing their messaging while the CEOs just become more private about who they support politically.

(9,020 posts)Trump is a builder? You are blessed to have a leader like Trump?
Makes me question his ability to make sound business decisions.

(15,437 posts)I know I'm gonna get blasted for this, but I don't believe in boycotting a product that the CEO supports. I fully expect many rich and greedy CEO's to support the GOP. Most of the small businesses in my bright Red area support Trump, I'm used to it.

(14,492 posts)Email the company and request they suggest an alternate brand for one of their products.....
Or, a message something like this:
Dear Goya Products,
We hear that McCormick and Loisa Adobo seasoning is far superior to yours. Are your products adequately discounted to compensate?

(561 posts)from their families. Yes, we are so "blessed" by a president who promised to build a wall paid for by Mexico. Except that never happened. The only thing he has successfully built on his watch is more hate and division. This guy can take his Goya beans and stick them where the sun don't shine. They are full of sodium and sugar anyhow, not even healthy.
