James raises $6.4M, Peters $5.2M in Michigan's Senate race

Source: AP

By DAVID EGGERT

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Republican challenger John James raised $6.4 million over three months in his campaign in Michigan for the U.S. Senate, again topping Democratic incumbent Gary Peters, who collected $5.2 million.

It was the fourth straight quarter in which the businessman and Army veteran outraised the first-term senator since entering the race about a year ago. Peters reported he had more than $12 million on hand, while James did not release that figure.

Both candidates reported record quarterly hauls and success tapping small-dollar donors — at least 95% of their donations were for $100 or less.

“Michigan cannot wait any longer for battle-tested leadership and that is exactly what this grassroots momentum shows,” said Abby Walls, James’ spokeswoman, who called Peters a failed “career partisan politician.”

Gary Peters of Michigan, one of two Democratic senators up for re-election in a state won by President Donald Trump, raised $5.2 million over three months in his campaign for reelection — his largest quarterly haul — leaving him with more than $12 million with four months until Election Day. of the black vote. Rethugs have a ton of money to invest on maintaining control of the Senate.

Likely a McTurtle approved strategy.

James is elevating himself by oppressing those around him. For example, here he is defending remaining silent in the face of Trump's many appeals to racism.

Republican candidate for Senate John James privately told Black leaders that he thought there was no point in publicly calling out President Donald Trump’s racist statements — just weeks before he criticized Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden for comments he made about Black voters.

"I've looked at your campaign throughout the months," the pastor said. "As I looked at some of the material, I don't see you standing out front saying, 'No, I condemn this regardless of my party affiliation.' You say that you will say something. I don't want to wait until you’re in a seat to hear you say something."

"I don't need somebody that is going to be supported by the president, I need somebody that is going to actually stand," the pastor added. "And sometimes standing is not just saying it behind closed doors, but it's saying it in the front line."

James defended himself, saying he felt like it was better to be silent in public to gain access to Trump, comparing himself to the biblical figure of Esther.

With Joe Biden double digits ahead in Michigan, candidates running for office tied to Trump, will face uphill battles regardless of how much money they raise. Their loyalty to him will be their undoing if Trump is polling in the low 40% to mid 30% approval range in states and with disapprovals well into the upper 50% range .

Trump's lack of leadership on the Corona Virus, Health Care, Racial Justice, Foreign Policy, Immigration, the Economy, will play well with Joe Biden showing leadership and talking about solutions to these issues.

to Biden, Rep Debbie Dingell and Sen Peters every quarter. One thing I don't get is why would someone run against Rep Debbie Dingell who represents us well? He claims to be a progressive. Progressive goals are the goals of many Dems. I hate that they act like I'm their enemy. When are these folks going to wake up?

I have received a 8 x 11 glossy photo of James in the mail, along with at least six or seven campaign mailings signs far. I’ve also seen his picture on multiple other (R) candidates mailings.
I have seen almost nothing from the Peters campaign so far. And I’m on all the dem making lists.

Peters is going to have a tough fight. He keeps a low profile generally, and always has. This cycle James, the helicopter pilot running on his military credentials and past statewide run against Stabenaw gives James a clear shot at the seat.

God help is all if he defeats Peters. I just hope for big D turnout this year.

Anybody who has Don fucking Junior campaign for them is absolutely no good in my book.

I’ll definitely be donating to Peters soon.
