13 states now report coronavirus testing issues, in echo of early troubles

Source: abc

Months after start of pandemic, shortage of equipment, lengthy turnaround times.

July 10, 2020, 3:02 AM

As coronavirus cases surge in much of the country, issues with testing availability and access have once again arisen in nearly every aspect of the testing supply chain, local officials and hospital leaders in several states told ABC News -- a troubling echo of the shortages that plagued the nation's initial response to the virus months ago.

Testing issues have manifested differently in different parts of the country, from states in the midst of a renewed battle against COVID-19 and those who still fear one might be coming, officials said.

In California and Nebraska, some testing sites were forced to close down because of a shortage in testing kits, chemical reagents, and other supplies. Arizona and South Carolina reported slower turnaround times for test results from labs due to lack of capacity. In New York, private labs now take up to a week to return test results. In Oregon, supply shortages with certain testing machines are slowing the volume of tests that can be done in at least nine hospitals, and one has stopped testing all together, according to a state health department report.

State, local and hospital officials at 13 states said they are experiencing some sort of issue with testing, and in all instances, the shortages and delays contribute to effectively limiting the number of Americans with access to coronavirus testing, which experts have long said is a first key step to stemming the spread of the virus. ...........................................

It has been 6 fucking months. There is no reason for a shortage of testing, sites, reagents, processing. NONE. We are fucked because the murdering pos in the White House wants to kill as many as possible and his republicon enablers are co-signing it.

until it is "unserviceable". Crappy, for-profit health employer. I have to tip the stupid plastic face shield up to start an IV because it is so scratched I can't see out of it. Or to read an insulin syringe. They won't give us a new face shield if the old one is still covering the PPE they provide us.

I know I am not the only one dealing with this crap, but it pisses me off that we STILL don't have what we need. And employee health won't test staff unless we are showing symptoms.

A$$holes. It's all about money.

Especially considering the stupid fucks that refuse to wear masks,
Thank you for showing up everyday to work. You are the best of humanity.

One is a nurse who regularly disregards the rules of masks on at all times around another person. She says she is fine. I have complained to management. Feel like a snitch, but when I ask her to put a mask on, she says "later". Our county requires masking out in public starting Monday. I hope that changes her tune.

Management finally made her comply. Do what you can to keep yourself safe. Can we get you a different face shield?

because goggles only protect your eyes and not their precious PPE they gave us. Thank you for the offer.

We are going to start targeting our most vulnerable

Newsom: “We are now looking to really target and modify our testing criteria in a much more strategic way. … really targeting the most vulnerable members of our community, the most diverse parts of the state and still addressing some existing testing deserts … and obviously supply concerns.”

I was still sent back to work. This county is also a known testing desert in California, and in the list of counties that had to dial back the opening. My city is conservative. They don’t comply with masks and social distancing for the most part. There are restaurants that are open for dine in even though the governor closed them again.

Sorry about Nunes.

I live on the coast, and it's about the same here. Most don't wear masks. We have a lot of college students who don't care.
