Russia's foreign minister mocks intel on bounties to Taliban for killing American troops

Source: Military Times

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov dismissed the intelligence claims as a sham. The intelligence assessments that Russia offered bounties were first reported by The New York Times, then confirmed to The Associated Press by American intelligence officials and others with knowledge of the matter.

“There has been a hype in the United States over speculation on alleged ties between Russia and the Taliban and our alleged push on them to fight against U.S. servicemen or even a reward for their heads,” Lavrov said during a videoconference on foreign policy issues. “I can only say that the entire thing has hinged on unscrupulous speculations, and no concrete facts have been presented whatsoever.”

Top Pentagon leaders told U.S. Congress on Thursday that reports of Russia offering Taliban militants bounties for killing Americans weren’t corroborated by defense intelligence agencies, but said they are looking into it and the U.S. will respond if necessary.

Yes, that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

Our military personnel should watch their backs. Conservatives don't care that Russia has put a price on their heads.

in 2013, with the special endorsement by VV Putin himself.

Paraphrased from Timothy Snyder's The Road To Unfreedom(2018):

That year the Russian Federation's "Foreign Policy Concept" of the Eurasia Project repeated Putin's characterization of the future as roiling chaos and resource grabs. As states weakened, great spaces would reemerge. In such a world there can be no "oasis" from "global turbulence," and so the EU was doomed. Law would give way to a contest of civlizations.

The Concept made clear that the process of supplanting the EU with Eurasia was to begin immediately, in 2013... when Ukraine was negotiating with the EU over terms of their NATO association. According to the Concept, if Ukraine wished to negotiate with the EU, it should accept Moscow as its intermediary.

In Eurasia, Russian dominance was the order of things. Long term, Eurasia would overcome the EU, leading to "the creation of a unified humanitarian space from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean," a quote from Ivan Ilyich by Lavrov.

Lavrov and Putin go back to the days of communism, but their goal is not world communism. Since 2005, with Putin's ceremonial re-burial of Ivan Ilyich, his constant media promotions of Ilyich as father of the new Russia, and monument comemmorations, Putin and Lavrov forge on today with the same intent that Ivan Ilyich's laid out -- that Russia would save the world not from fascism but with fascism.

Mocking isn't a political ploy from Lavrov. In his view, mocking is the least of what the decadent West -- the silly believer in facts and passions -- deserves from his eternally innocent savior nation. It will never, ever get the truth or facts from Russia. It is beneath respect. And Russia will always insert its denials, mockings, money, and self-serving logic into American media because that's their intent. Eternal war.

Russia's world view and the depth of its commitment to its inevitable future is best understood in Snyder's book, the most brilliant analysis of Russia and Putin yet in print.

Russia does not intend to leave the American political landscape anytime soon. Unless...
