Syria bomb blast kills Hezbollah operative

Source: UK Guardian

One of Hezbollah's most senior operatives has been killed in Syria and buried in his home village in Lebanon's Bekaa valley, the militant group has confirmed.

Ali Hussein Nassif, a founding member of the organisation, was killed near Homs over the weekend in what is believed to have been a roadside bomb explosion. A Lebanese government official confirmed on Tuesday that his body had been transferred from Syria through the Masnaa border crossing.

The issue of Hezbollah members fighting in Syria has remained deeply sensitive since the earliest days of the uprising. For most of the past 18 months, the Shia Islamic group had steadfastly denied that its members were in action alongside Syrian forces, despite emphatic claims from rebel groups and opposition figures.

While openly acknowledging the party's support for the embattled regime of Syria's Bashar al-Assad, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah had claimed it had only leant moral backing. However, new graves in cemetaries in Lebanon designtated for members deemed to have died as martyrs have steadily been dug throughout the summer. There has also been reported discontent among family members who had lost relatives.

I suppose there's a six-degrees-of-Kevin-Bacon link in there somewhere, but aside from that, doubtful. You are nonetheless pleased by this action, no? The wahhabi/salafi terror gangs are currently doing in Syria what Israeli terror gangs have been wanting to do for ages--this must be very frustrating and wistfully satisfying at the same time.

Not pleased by this action, no.

Was just making a point about the tendency in some circles to place blame, whether the evidence supports it or no.

Could be something in another language though.

I just make the comment because it's something I have seen before in similar circumstances.

I would love to be wrong in this case!

But does he really count for this exercise? I mean, he blames Israel if he has a wet fart.

Edit: Yes, two flatulence allusions in one thread. No more, I promise!

And, how blow back is inevitable. SA-7 up the tailpipe, anyone? There are 15,000 of them floating around surplus from the "successful" Libyan regime change operation.

Costs and consequences. Every policy decision has them.

Hezbollah is the scummiest of the scum. They are actually better organized and more dangerous than Al-Qaeda.

US intelligence always considered Hezbollah the "A-team" of international terrorism.

As long as they are entrenched in the Levant doing the bidding of their Iranian masters, there will never be peace in the Middle East.

16. Three dead in blast in Hezbollah stronghold
Wed Oct 3, 2012, 11:33 AM
Oct 2012

Three people were killed on Wednesday when an explosion ripped through a building in eastern Lebanon, a stronghold of the Shi'ite Muslim militant group Hezbollah, a medical source said.

Hezbollah forces quickly cordoned off the area and prevented journalists from entering the town of Nabi Sheet, 30 km (18 miles) south of the regional centre of Baalbek.

The cause of the explosion was not immediately clear. One source said the blast occurred in a weapons cache but a security source said the building was used to store car parts.
