California governor says Orange County can't reopen schools days after vote to reopen

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) on Friday announced that some schools in the state will remain online-only in the fall rather than reopening to in-person classes.
Schools that are in counties currently on the state's coronavirus watch list do not meet Newsom's criteria to reopen. That means that as of Friday, 80 percent of the state's schools cannot reopen in the fall.
Those counties include Orange County, where the education board just this week approved reopening without masks or social distancing.
Masks are also required for teachers and students in third grade and above in schools that reopen, according to Newsom. Additional requirements include physical distancing, symptom checks, hand-washing stations and increased sanitation.

(30,817 posts)I envy those teachers right now. I'm pretty nervous about school opening in the fall under a hybrid schedule.

(19,204 posts)don't care if their kids become super-spreaders, at least Californians have a Democratic Governor who does.

(51,694 posts)Their insane refusal to wear masks has caused a horrific spike in cases in OC. They're my neighbors and are endangering my family's life. Glad Newsom is trying to protect us from them.

(19,204 posts)for living among the OC crazies. Yes, they are a different breed, and are so resolute in their republican dumbfuckery. I don't know any personally, but I've read so many stories about their obstinate lack of empathy toward actual human beings, I don't really care to know any personally. I feel for you, my friend. Stay strong.

I think that was 1999.
I was there over the weekend because I came from Tokyo then visited the SoCal company site 3 days the next week.
Nice, but way too expensive.
I had relatives in Huntington Beach & Anaheim, too.
Didn't have to pay for any meals!
