LIBERTY, Mo. (AP) A massive federal operation underway in Kansas City, Missouri, that targets violent crime has been largely welcomed by law enforcement and state officials, while some civil rights organizations are strongly opposed to having federal agents involved in solving local crimes.
Under the federal effort dubbed Operation Legend after 4-year-old LeGend Taliferro, who was fatally shot while sleeping in his bed in Kansas City 225 federal agents from the FBI, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the U.S. Marshals Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives joined 400 agents already working and living in the Kansas City area.
Federal officials have said the operation will not mirror one in Portland, Oregon, where the actions of federal officers outside the U.S. courthouse hailed by President Donald Trump, but done without local consent have resulted in clashes between protesters and camouflaged, unidentified agents.
The agents in Kansas City will investigate homicides, shootings and violent crime in cooperation with local law enforcement agencies, officials say.

There was a reason the Black Panthers armed themselves. This kind of abuse is intended to provoke that response so that further expansion of this action will appear to be justified.
Putin has an ongoing program in Russia of putting his adversaries in positions where they appear to be breaking the law, either through the twisting of interpretation of statute or through planted evidence, or occasionally by falling through a 4th-floor window.

People call for a federal investigation.
On the assumption that "they will invent witnesses, plant evidence and provoke confrontation"?
Just trying to figure out if we trust the feds more than locals, the locals more than feds, or if it depends on whose ox might be gored so we first check to see how we might benefit before deciding what's ethical.

This is not an anti-federal rant. If any of the federal officers are there for law enforcement their actions will show it. I've seen the difference in NC between local police with agendas and Federal enforcement.
Trump and Barr are clearly intent on disrupting the election by fear and intimidation.
UPDATE: 7-23-2020
I appears the so-called federal agents are in fact private contractors, much along the lines of Eric Prince's Blackwater crews seen in New Orleans after Katrina. In ugly words they are mercenaries allegedly hired to protect federal property. According to former DHS and Police officers who trained with some of them in Georgia they are more like hired thugs in misleading uniforms, and are NOT sworn or trained peace officers.
Why are they in Kansas City? Maybe its a staging area for more adventurous future actions? Perhaps to threaten KC black voters? The story keeps unwinding more each day.
There have been comments and actions in Congress over this, as well as ACLU and Mayoral lawsuits filed to curtail their deployment or to remove them.
In any case my original comments stand. They are NOT legitimate Federal agents from recognized domestic authorities like the FBI. The sky is not falling and I don't wear aluminum foil on my head.
