Russian satellite caught shadowing US spy satellite earlier this year launched a mysterious weapon

US Space Command said Thursday that it has evidence that Russia tested a space-based anti-satellite weapon last week, revealing that Cosmos 2543, a Russian satellite caught tailing a US spy satellite earlier this year, released some sort of projectile into orbit.

"The Russian satellite system used to conduct this on-orbit weapons test is the same satellite system that we raised concerns about earlier this year, when Russia maneuvered near a US government satellite," Gen. John Raymond, the commander of US Space Command, said in a statement.

Raymond revealed in February tha a pair of Russian satellites, Cosmos 2542 and 2543, were shadowing a US spy satellite, specifically USA 245, also known as KH-11.

"We view this behavior as unusual and disturbing," he told TIME. "It has the potential to create a dangerous situation in space," he added, noting that the US had expressed its concerns to the Russians.

Talking about it now is about the extent of what we can / should do. Unless you want to start shooting shit down.

Here goes the counter anti-satellite defense build up. I don't much go for the next defense build up but having worked in Mil Int in the Army it really works when you can see and hear what is going on over the horizon to prevent us from overreacting out of fear we'll get caught with our panties down. But I hear the numbers that we are paying Lockheed Martin to develop an anti-hypersonic missile defense and our own hypersonic missile systems and it staggers the imagination- $100s of billions. What could we do with that kind of money for education and so on?

Putin will deny it ever happened - and Trump will say he believes Putin.

Trump will have averted another crisis.

Oh - what's that about the 'bounties'?

It has now been designated "Space Force" because Fat Donnie likes the way that sounds.

There used to be a 3-D animation tracking all satellites currently in orbit. There is, however, this simulation of what the view from the ground will be once all 12,000 satellites are up:

So much for taking your children out at night and pointing out the constellations, planets and stars. They'll never be able to spread a blanket under the night sky and just let their minds expand beyond our tiny planet. From now on we'll be trapped in a Dyson swarm of Elon satellites.

Their own explanation is naturally something else:
"The Russian Defense Ministry conducted an experiment to separate a small satellite from a previously launched unified multifunctional space platform."

he will be testing our mettle in these upcoming months. Unless this has been scripted in the BFF calls to each other. Donald will do anything that Putin tells him to do that he, D, can get away with. And that's trying to weaken us militarily. I just hope our JCOS remains impartial and not let the clown in the WH cause americans undue harm.

Trump and his cast of unconfirmed departmental grifters have neutered America. It’s time for some competent professionals to start kicking ass and taking names internationally. It’s time for Russia to pay a heavy economic price for their meddling across the globe. It’s time our leadership to send a message loud and clear - far and wide... Not in our house you son of a bitch!
