Several of the first U.S. schools to reopen their classrooms are already experiencing covid-19 outbreaks. The news is particularly grim in Georgia, where Gov. Brian Kemp (R) declined to issue an order requiring masks in schools. One district there has been forced to quarantine nearly 1,000 students and staff.

Weekly jobless claims in the United States fell below 1 million for the first time in four months.
An attempt to revive economic relief negotiations fell apart in a matter of minutes, with Trump adamantly declaring that a deal is not going to happen.
The president also said the U.S. Postal Service does not have enough money to facilitate mail-in voting for the November election, and he has no intention of approving emergency funds.
