Bloomberg to speak at Democratic convention
Source: The Hill
Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg will speak at the Democratic National Convention next week, two sources familiar with the decision say.
Bloomberg, who was not originally included in the announced list of speakers released by the convention earlier this week, will be "sharing why we have the best candidates to meet today's challenges and get big things done," according to an email he sent to supporters on Thursday.
The announcement is sure to anger progressives in the party who feel that the convention is already spotlighting speakers such as Republican John Kasich and not rising stars in the party such as Stacey Abrams.
"It's a real disappointment," one delegate told The Hill upon learning the news.

He's one of the good guys. It's hard to get that through to some people.

(18,656 posts)has absolutely nothing to do with the invitation for him to speak. There are probably dozens of other speakers who have been invited that also spoke at Republican conventions and endorsed Bush...

Should we tell him to go away?
As you know this is a critical election, and it sure isnt a given, especially because of the electoral college, and the efforts the republicans to suppress the vote by trying to destroy the usps and other factors
You also seem to be implying we should do the same with Kasich? If we take Ohio, trump is finished
This is about doing things smart politically

No sense running lots of ads at a time that no one will be paying attention.
BTW, he spent $200M (20% of this year's billion) in 2018 on Democratic Congressional campaigns.

(34,456 posts)I also trust the Biden-Harris team to think about the messaging - how to convey to the public what they stand for, and to choose speakers who will reinforce this.

(42,862 posts)All I'm trying to say is that this is Joe Biden's and Kamala Harris' convention. It's nobody else's. He's the big winner and he gets to make the decisions. If a far-left candidate ever wins then I'm sure that he'll make many decisions that the center disagrees with. That's the nature of politics, right? We all know what's at stake. The time for fighting and egos and denigrating our party and our candidates is over! Now it's time to fall in line and get with the program.

(47,482 posts)Then we shall give him the benefit of the doubt for now. I just found it odd that he was so quiet for so long at a time when never-Trump republicans are dominating the airwaves with TV appearances, books, articles, and outstanding ads. You'd think that Bloomberg would want to leave his mark.

(111,267 posts)While I didn't think much of him as a candidate--we need someone versed in government, not another businessman--I do think he has things to say that businessmen need to listen to, like how badly Dumdum has fouled up this economy and how bad it is going to get if steps aren't taken now to start limiting the damage.
I wish these conservatives would stop telling me how I think. They are just as bad as Republicans when it comes to getting it wrong.

I don't give a flying fornication who anyone supports in primaries as long as they don't go into a prolonged sulk because their horse didn't win. I thought it was a strong field this year and while I preferred some other others, I didn't really rule any of them out, not even Gabbard.
