Louisiana emergency election plan scales back mail-in voting
Source: Associated Press
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) Louisianas elections chief Monday proposed a scaled-back emergency plan for this falls elections that would modestly expand early voting amid the coronavirus outbreak, but still require most people to cast their ballots in person in the pandemic.
The proposal Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin sent to the governor and lawmakers recommends a much more limited adjustment in voting rules for the Nov. 3 presidential election and a Dec. 5 election than the emergency plan used for Louisianas summer elections.
It offers no expansions of absentee balloting for people with conditions that make them more vulnerable to COVID-19 or people who are isolating because of virus exposure.
A major expansion of our absentee ballot program in such a short time-frame would be nearly impossible, would exacerbate voter confusion and would further strain an already stressed election system in terms of human, physical and technical resources, Ardoin, a Republican, wrote in the proposal.

(22,264 posts)Ours here in TX has been extended by an additional week, which I believe makes it the longest early voting period in the country.
Plus on Election Day many Texas counties allow voting at any precinct in the county regardless of where you live. Voters can avoid crowded locations; in our county we will have around 230 open precincts on Election Day and the Election Judges will be able to check wait times so that if they get slammed voters can be redirected to less crowded nearby locations. If I were going to vote in person on Election Day, I could choose from probably 10 convenient locations - 15 minute drive or less.
