The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, one of the largest schools in the country to bring students to campus for in-person teaching, said Monday it will pivot to all-remote instruction for undergraduates after testing showed a pattern of rapid spread of the novel coronavirus.
Officials announced the abrupt change just a week after classes began at the 30,000-student state flagship university.
They said 177 cases of the dangerous pathogen had been confirmed among students, out of 954 tested. Another 349 students were in quarantine because of possible exposure to the virus, they said.
The remote-teaching order for undergraduate classes will take effect Wednesday, and the university will take steps to allow students to leave campus housing without financial penalty if they wish.

I can't believe we still have to protest the sh¡t. I am truly and well disgusted with the patriarchy.

(17,931 posts)Colleges in my area have scared the crap out of me since they all decided to open on campus. I get it. I do, but damn. Our state government has done a great job getting this thing under control, but thousands of students coming back here for the Fall may knock us back to March. Damn it!

This age group just doesn't "get it" and even though some have been trying to be diligent about wearing masks, most are NOT social-distancing, whether they have one on or not. Their assumption is, if they don't "feel sick" then they don't have it.
They just had a ridiculous mess with incoming freshman at Villanova University last week during their orientation -

Most are not wearing masks and definitely not social distancing. When I ask for who took the video Ive received mixed responses - several say a University employee who wants to remain anonymous
