Police officers in Kenosha, Wis., shot a Black man multiple times as he tried to get into a vehicle, cellphone video of the incident shows. The man is in serious condition, according to the Kenosha Police Department.

The shooting happened after 5 p.m., when police responded to a domestic incident, police said. Witnesses told the Kenosha News that the man, who hasn’t been identified, was trying to break up a fight.

The video shows neighbors congregated outside as two police officers with their guns drawn followed the man as he approached a gray SUV. As the man opened the driver’s side door, one of the officers fired multiple shots.

A large crowd of protesters gathered following the police shooting of a Black man in Kenosha, Wisconsin, on Sunday. He was identified by Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers as Jacob Blake. The county declared a state of emergency overnight curfew, according to CBS Milwaukee affiliate WDJT-TV.

The man was transported to the hospital in serious condition, according to police. His father said on Facebook that his son is alive and in stable condition. Family friend Daniel Poneman tweeted that Blake is out of surgery, in the ICU and is "expected to make it."

Graphic video that purportedly shows the shooting began circulating on social media. The video, which appears to have been taken from across the street, shows the man walking around an SUV as police yell at him with weapons drawn, with one officer closely following him. As the man opens the driver-side door of the vehicle, the officer grabs the back of the man's shirt and appears to fire several shots into the mans back. At least seven shots are heard in the video, but it was unclear how many officers fired.

In a statement, Kenosha Police said they were called to the 28th Avenue and 40th Street around 5:11 p.m for a "domestic incident."

He was wanted on a felony warrant for rape. Had fought police in the past (that would show up when they ran him NCIC) also previous gun charge of waving a gun around drunk in a bar also would show up.

According to Wisconsin Circuit Court Access online records, a Jacob S. Blake, same age and with an address in the same exact block where the shooting occurred, had a warrant issued for him on July 7 on pending accusations of misdemeanor criminal trespass to a dwelling with domestic abuse as a modifier; felony third-degree sexual assault with domestic abuse as a modifier; and misdemeanor disorderly conduct with domestic abuse as a modifier.

A 2015 story in Racine Eye described how “Racine police say K9 Dozer had to help officers take a man into custody when the man refused to go quietly into custody after he pulled a gun at a local bar.” The man was described as Jacob Blake, 24, of Racine, which makes him the same age as the man shot by police on August 23. The Racine Eye story says he was charged with “one felony count of resisting arrest causing a soft tissue injury to a police officer and one misdemeanor count each of carrying a concealed weapon, carrying a firearm while intoxicated, endangering safety-use of a dangerous weapon, and disorderly conduct.”

He was holding a knife in his left hand and the officers were screaming "drop the knife" as they all walked around the front of the vehicle. Then he attempts to enter the vehicle containing children while still brandishing the knife and ignoring officer commands. Shooting still seems excessive though, a taser could have been more appropriate to incapacitate and disarm him.

Look all I am saying is maybe slow down and find out what happened not just a short video. They at minimum had a man with a knife resisting and trying to get into a car with children. They would have no idea if they were his kids.

People get outraged at the shooting and the rape victim comes forward on national media. I can see it spun in Wisconsin as a campaign ad for the turds so called law and order. We are all in tank helmet/swift boat times and I don’t want to see another Wille Horton type bs.

I don't see it in the video, and cops are well known to shouting things at civilians to get a reaction or cover themselves before they get violent. We have ample evidence of cops doing this kind of stuff.

Its more likely the cop decided he was going to shoot Blake and shouted about a knife to cover his ass when he attempts to murder. But we won't know until a knife shows up. But then, cops also have a long history of planting guns, knives, and drugs on people when they screw things up.

It seems to me we have another Laquan McDonald on our hands. Who actually had a knife but hadn't attacked anyone. And we all know the cop who shot him, VanDyke, was convicted.

(CNN)A man is fighting for his life after he was shot by an officer with the Kenosha Police Department in Wisconsin Sunday afternoon.

A graphic video purported to be of the shooting and posted on Facebook, shows at least two police officers following the man with guns drawn as he walks from the passenger side of a gray vehicle to the driver's side. When the man opens the door of the vehicle and tries to get in, one of the officers is seen grabbing him by the T-shirt.

The officer points his gun at the man as he holds on to the man's T-shirt. At least seven gunshots are heard, and the man appears to go limp in the vehicle, the car horn blaring.

Police said they were called to the address to deal with a domestic disturbance, but it is unclear who called or what happened before the video recording began.

CNN is seeking additional information from police.

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers identified the victim as Jacob Blake in a statement released shortly after the incident occurred. Evers said Blake was critically injured when he was shot multiple times.

28. We're having two protests downtown tonight in Appleton, WI

One is BLM downtown where most of the protests take place, the other is a protest outside of the RNC local headquarters with about 30 people out there screaming and chanting and holding up anti-repuke signs!!

We had talked about going down there, but there was a hit and run about 45" ago and we changed our minds. It's so hot and muggy I would be sucking on my huffer the whole time, and it might get more interesting, so too risky.

Was thrilled to see it and hear it on our local scanner. The wanton murder of young Black people must stop, now.
