Trump cites school choice, China as second-term priorities

Source: Politico

President Donald Trump said school choice and being tougher with China would be top priorities in his second term if he were reelected.

In an interview with Steve Hilton that aired Sunday night on Fox News’ “The Next Revolution,” Trump immediately volunteered “I‘d love to see school choice” when Hilton broached the subject of what he’d like to do in his second term. “Education is going to be a big factor for me,” Trump told Hilton.

“We are working with every educational group in the country,“ he said.

The president also said he intended to push harder against China for its trade policies — and even considered Hilton’s suggestion that he consider “decoupling” from the nation’s close economic links to China.

1. Campaign Promise

“Soon, every American will be able to afford to pay someone to take the SAT for them. Maybe someone smart from, well, you know, not Mexico.“

It’s the first campaign promise he intends to break. 😂

after how many months after Hannity posed the question? To be fair, he didn't actually come up with them, they were suggested by hangers-on or he saw something on TV.

4. In Trump world, school choice is code for whites to segregate their schools.

Creating charter schools is a primary way for white parents to ensure their children go to schools with very few minorities. The whole concept of charter schools needs some serious study because far too many of them are taking public dollars and delivering poor results.

Even those that deliver good results need study because we need to ask whether teaching to a standardized test like the SAT or the ACT produces adults who can think or just people who have a very narrow education but do really well on a test that measures academic skills that may not translate well to life skills. One example I remember is a charter school in the Southwest whose literature curriculum focuses primarily on white male writers, with only one or two females or minorities included. The excuse is a focus on the classics, some of which certainly should be taught, but the exclusion of women and minorities teaches an unexamined lesson—that the ideas of white men are important and worth reading while the ideas of all women and minorities are not important and not worth reading. How does this bias affect the thinking of these future adults and voters?

Students in these schools do well on tests because that is the focus of their instruction. But is that the sole purpose of education? I think not.

TX GOP opposed critical thinking skills in school.

All they have to do is set up a trade embargo and nationalize US factory infrastructure and Xi is the asshole to do just that. He fancies himself the reincarnation of Stalin and thinks the party can purge its way to purity.

We don't make enough cloth, shoes, car parts, electronics, and a million other things that we rely on China for. They're also holding our debt and could cause chaos by calling in even a small part of that. Picking a fight with them is the stupidest and most self destructive thing he's come up with in three and a half years of stupidity and self destruction. If he thinks he's going to bring them to their knees, he's lost the plot entirely and needs a rubber room until the antipsychotic drugs kick in.

If he gets back in, this country is in for the toughest time it has ever known.

9. SCHOOL CHOICE?

Just who the fuck is that supposed to appeal to in a time when schools keep getting shut down because he botched everything by ignoring public health experts?

People aren't going to be picky these days, not even in those walled suburbs with McMansions crammed in on small lots. They just want the kids out of the house and in school and any old school will do.
