Biden holds 52-point lead over Trump among college students: poll
Source: The Hill
Seventy percent of college students surveyed said they will vote for Biden, compared to just 18 percent who said they will vote for Trump, according to the Knight Foundation poll released Monday.

The poll found that 81 percent of students said they had an unfavorable impression of Trump, compared to just 19 percent who said they had a favorable impression of the president.
The survey also found that most students, about 7 in 10, said they are absolutely certain they will vote in the upcoming elections, with female students expressing greater certainty than their male counterparts by a margin of 10 points, according to the foundation.
Those respondents that identified as Democrats were more likely to say they are absolutely certain they will vote, at 81 percent, with 74 percent of Republicans saying the same, based on the poll.

The article points out that the college students who say they'll vote for Biden don't all have a favorable opinion of him. That's probably due to his not promising free college for all and forgiveness of student loan debt. One bad result of making unrealistic promises to college students is that it can easily lead to disappointment if the candidate making those promises doesn't get the nomination.
But it's encouraging that 70% of college students are still planning to vote for Biden.

(18,402 posts)in this climate, it's a sad statement. I don't believe it is. Please have more faith in the critical and political thinking of young people: they care about many aspects of our government: racial justice, the economy, income inequality, climate change, gun violence, etc. etc.

As for needing to sell, when my state legalized marijuana it was the first (and only) to make racial equity in the dispensary business a part of the law. So far, it's not working so well. But at least it's in the law.

(12,265 posts)I worked as a poll worker for a while. Every major election we had more than a few students who showed up to vote and were not registered. They seemed confused when we told them they had to formally register, they could not just show up and vote. I agree with them it is nuts, but the fact that they don't know they have to register is a bit scary.

(155 posts)Honestly, I don't see anything coming from the Biden campaign to motivate them. He needs to speak to their concerns specifically.

(19,201 posts)or to vote by mail. There's no 'App' for voting from your phone, and young people seem physically connected to their phones. Prying them away for the time it takes to actually vote is going to be a huge problem. I'm sure they have good intentions, but good intentions aren't going to get Biden/Harris elected.

(9,116 posts)Young people aren't special. They're motivated and mobilized in much the same manner as old people. Some think about issues in the abstract or the prospective, but by and large, they think about issues that directly affect them in the immediate. If you want them to vote for your party, you have to offer them something tangible.

(4,993 posts)As adults they are responsible for their own actions.
If, as the poll indicates, they overwhelmingly support Biden, they need to act like adults, get it in gear and vote.
If they don't get out and vote, they (and I say this to anyone who does not vote) have absolutely no fricking right to bitch and moan about the current jackass in office.

(9,116 posts)From the sound of it, neither do you.
These polls self-select individuals who are already likely to vote. The question isn't whether or not this "70% of polled college students" is going to vote for Biden (they've already committed themselves to it), but whether it is representative of college students at large.
If they don't get out and vote, they (and I say this to anyone who does not vote) have absolutely no fricking right to bitch and moan about the current jackass in office.
Winning elections interests me more than the satisfactory feeling one gets when knowing their arguments are internally consistent. Maybe get with the program.

(14,855 posts)There was an HR rep at one of my past jobs from 20+ years ago who said to me one day, "I just realized how such a nice young man like you could be a Democrat. You went to college, so you were brainwashed."
LOL! Firstly, she was a religious nut! And she thought I was the brainwashed one?! Secondly, I was surprised that she even brought up politics to me because I'd never discussed it with her, but only among a small number of coworkers. (Obviously, my Democratic allegiance was big enough "news" in that damn place that it got back to her too.)
Edit: My only reply was that I was a Democrat before even going to college. (And coincidentally, management at that place was less friendly to me in general around that same period.)

(4,993 posts)and labels change over the years.
It is your political stances that are the key not the label that they wear.
While this was 150+ years ago, it bears saying:
In the 1860 thru to ~1880's, the Republican Party was the liberal party and the Democratic Party was the conservative one.
It slowly changed over time and the labels traded places.

I'm beginning to think these murders of African Americans is intentional and planned to fan the flames of racial animous.
Doubt that it's a coincidence.
Kill someone. Don't worry, you have a better chance of being struck by lightning while simultaneously being bitten by a shark, than you do of being held accountable as a police officer.
Rightly outraged Americans protest.
Protests are escalated resulting in smoke, fire and teargas on the street.
Video of fired, smoke and teargas sent to the RNC to coincide with their dystopian message.
Hard not to think this is according to white supremacists playbook.
I'm sorry for the "good" law enforcement, but the entire force needs to be torn down to the studs and rebuilt.
