Embattled candidate Chris Janicek cemented his intention to stay in Nebraskas Senate race by agreeing to a Sept. 4 debate, despite being disavowed by the Democratic Party for lewd texts he sent about the campaign's fundraising director.
The debate announcement came on Monday, the same day that former U.S. Rep. Brad Ashford of Omaha expressed interest in entering the race. He said he's prepared to run as a write-in candidate if Janicek follows through on his pledge to compete this fall.
Janicek and U.S. Sen. Ben Sasse agreed to a Sept. 4 debate at 7 p.m. on Nebraska Educational Television, with no other candidates present.
Sept. 1 is the deadline for Janicek to withdraw and be replaced on the ballot by another Democratic candidate.
U.S. Senate candidate Chris Janicek, shown at his Dundee cupcake shop, calls himself the Democratic Partys best chance to defeat Republican Sen. Ben Sasse in November. Nebraska Democratic Party officials have called on Janicek to withdraw from the race over a sexually explicit joke that he texted to staff members.

IF Chris Janicek doesn't drop out, Marta and I both would vote for a write in Brad Ashford.

Then what he's saying is, the Democrats have zero chance, because Janicek ain't gonna win
