Plouffe questions Romney's disavowal of "47%" remarks
Source: CNN
In brief comments to reporters on Friday, White House Senior Adviser David Plouffe questioned the credibility of Mitt Romneys most recent attempts to distance himself from controversial comments delivered at a private fundraiser last May.
I think he said they were inelegant, Plouffe said, referring to Romneys initial reaction to recordings of his 47% comments. There is no elegant way to attack half the country, say theyre victims, say they wont take responsibility. These are teachers. These are veterans. These are seniors. And the most important thing is his policies reflect that approach and that disdain because his entire economic philosophy is geared toward the very wealthy and burdening the middle class.
In an interview with Fox News on Thursday, Romney tried to further distance himself from the remarks, telling Sean Hannity his comments were completely wrong, despite having defended his meaning at a press conference held the day after the tapes from the fundraiser were made public.
Noting how much time had passed since Romney originally delivered the remarks and his recent attempts to walk away from them, Plouffe added that the GOP nominees most recent disavowal should be viewed with some skepticism.

(135,425 posts)He owns those comments. I'll bet he has said that very thing DOZENS of times at private venues. DOZENS.
All they need is one more tape of him saying something similar, and that would put a nail in his campaign coffin.
Where are his tax returns?

I think this goes along with the disavowal of his 47% remarks, as a long planned and often attempted "campaign reboot". Or, ditching all the stuff that failed to get him any more votes. What's left?

(6,436 posts)Romney has assumed as many positions as a double-jointed streetwalker.
I really can't remember when I have seen anybody change positions with such alacrity or assert the opposite of a position he formerly propounded with such utter tranquility ("Pre-existing conditions?? my plan covers that!" ...Obama thought bubble: "Say WHAAAAT???!!!" .

The real problem is that Mitt confirmed the beliefs of many of his followers, and his "denial" only proves that he was beaten down by the "liberal" press. It would not be so bad that Mitt said what he did, but it is much worse that so many agree with him.

(924 posts)are likely leaning Romney all along. They just look for justification to forgive him the remark and think he is a good man.
My point is, Romney is rallying his base and sympathizers with recent activities, the debate, the change of position, and this enhances his chance somewhat. However, as long as the democrats stick to our ground game, get out the vote, we will prevail.
