(Abu Hamza etc) Terrorism Suspects Extradited From Britain Appear in New Haven Court

Source: NYT

Hours after arriving in the United States, two of the four terrorism suspects extradited from Britain along with the fiery Islamic preacher Abu Hamza al-Masri appeared in federal court in New Haven to face an array of terrorism charges.

The two suspects, Babar Ahmad and Seyla Talha Ahsan, pleaded not guilty Saturday in Federal District Court in New Haven, according to The Associated Press, and were expected to remain in custody until their trial. Mr. Ahsan and Mr. Ahmad had been charged with providing support to terrorists and with conspiracy-related offenses.

Mr. Masri, 54, and two other suspects, Adel Abdul Bary and Khaled al-Fawwaz, are scheduled to appear Saturday in federal court in Manhattan.

The United States had been seeking to extradite Mr. Masri since 2004 to face 11 charges that include calling for holy war in Afghanistan, playing a role in kidnappings in Yemen and participating in a plot to set up a terrorism training camp in Bly, Ore. Since 2006, he had been incarcerated in Britain on other charges, including incitement to murder. He attracted a following among militants as much as he drew the reproach of his enemies and the attention of the British security services.

is showing. They will allow someone, Babar Ahmad, to be extradited to the US despite his offense being committed solely in Britain and having no connection to the US.

I used to have respect for the ECHR but now they're just another whore for the American regime.

Not a damn one so he's being tried under the suspect "Material support of terrorism" rap. You know the one where running a website sympathizing with a group can get your "ass" thrown in jail as you put it. Nice to see you support prosecutions for thought crimes.

I shed no tears but, unlike you and the rest of the Chicken Littles out there, I don't believe in throwing him in an American gulag, no matter what constitutional or human rights protections we have to slash and burn.

He chose to host his website in the US. If he'd have given that a little more thought he wouldn't be in a US court today.

Sucks to be him, i guess. I wish him all the worst.

Enemy Combatants or Suspected Terrorists against the U.S.....All can be tried in our courts...HERE in the States. The reason they don't close Gitmo is obvious:

We want to torture and not do it here in the States....to avoid getting caught blatantly breaking the laws against torture...doncha know....
