'We're all f**ked': Trump insiders say that now he has Covid, the election is over

Source: The Independent

Just hours after telling attendees at the Alfred E Smith Memorial Foundation’s annual dinner that an end to the pandemic was in sight, Donald Trump’s name was added to the long list of those who’ve been afflicted by it.

Like so many of the consequential announcements he has made during his presidency, Trump broke the news that he — along with his wife Melania — had tested positive for Covid-19 with a post to his Twitter account shortly before 1am on Friday. An official announcement came roughly ten minutes later, under the signature of Commander Sean Conley, the Navy Medical Corps officer who serves as physician to the President.

According to Trumpworld sources, political strategists, and other Washington insiders, the President’s disclosure of his positive Covid-19 test may well have had another purpose: Announcing the de facto end of his hopes of re-election.

People are still going to scream "just vote! Don't get complacent!" (Because I'm sure there are lot of people on the Democratic Underground who are undecided or are unlikely to vote) but all this does is drops Trump's already very low chances of being reelected even further. It's like he is going from 7% chance to 5% chance. It just adds to the pile of problems of his own making.

I think the 20% that 538 tags him with is probably about right, though it's falling quickly. There are some undecideds, but he'd basically need to sweep them just to make it close, much less win. Independents seem to be flocking to Biden.

All that being said, Biden's lead is massive and the race has been historically stable. I just don't see anything changing that. This isn't 2016 - in that cycle, Trump was trending upward at the very end, in part thanks to Comey and it boiled down to 70k votes in three states. He's not going to roll sevens a dozen times in a row again.

No one thought Trump could beat Hillary in 2016. He was a laughing stock and Hillary was a professional. So many people thought it was an impossibility that they stayed home on election night - thinking Hillary was a forgone conclusion - and the Orange Menace won.

There was much pre-hatched chicken counting going on everywhere - especially here on DU - that drew people into a false sense of security about a Hillary victory.

Under no circumstances should we Dems, libs and progressives say anything like "it's already over" a whole month before the election - no matter how bad it looks for Trump. Those assholes on the right don't care about democracy and the will of the people. They aren't trying to win by presenting their vision for America and bringing people to their side with open and honest reasoning.

Rather, they are engineering their victories through voter suppression, sowing division, working electoral college math, pressing their 2-senators-per-state advantage for all it's worth, tacitly accepting foreign influence, running the Senate like a mob family, and everything else we read about every day.

It's not over. Not by a longshot. Stop saying it. Stop thinking it. Get out the vote.

This isn't 2016. Trump had to have three dozen things go exactly right and only won because of a pathetic field of Republican losers in the primaries, voter suppression, Comey, and a fluke of the electoral system.

He's not going to make up an 8% deficit. There are indications that it might be higher now.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't vote. We need to make sure that he gets a Congress amenable to his agenda and make gains at all levels. I think you're confusing confidence based on reality with complacency. We should be more motivated than ever.

Dumpy is desperate to get the election conversation on anything other than COVID because his polling on that is terrible. The more people think about COVID the worse he does because it is a constant reminder of how he choked and failed.

Any chance to pivot away from COVID and towards any other narrative for the next two weeks is dead. I mean as the article points out his economic adviser was being asked questions about mask policies. Dumpy shouldn't be allowed to whistle past the graveyard when it comes to his COVID failures and now at least for the next couple weeks he won't be able to.

friends, anyone who would listen that anger makes you susceptible to illness. I say - when you get sick, count back 3 days and see if there wasn't something that got you very angry, or you had an upsetting argument, etc. I got a text from my daughter this morning and she said "OMG mom - 45 was ballastic on Tuesday and showed positive on Friday - THREE DAYS".

Just test it yourself. I feel it has something to do with your anger/upset affecting your immune system, maybe cortisol? I'm not a doctor so I can't say scientifically but I am an energy worker and have seen this happen for the majority of my life, so I trust that SOMETHING happens in that 72 hour period, and it has to do with what anger and upset does to our body's health and wellness.

"Former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci, who has become a vocal Trump critic since his stint on Trump’s staff ended, said the President contracting the virus “is almost Mother Nature’s way of sending a signal that there’s something severely wrong with our society and what is going on right now”.

“He’s lied about the science, he’s lied about the marks, and it’s a result of his leadership that there’s hundreds of thousands of people who have died as a result…and hopefully this will be symbolism for people when they go to the voting booth,” he continued, adding that Trump’s dismissal of basic public health measures has been “almost criminally negligent” because it “set up a culture of unscientific dishonesty inside the White House”. That could be especially damaging to the President, considering poll upon poll which shows Americans trust Biden far more when it comes to handling the coronavirus pandemic."

If anyone tells me they didn't afterwards, I'm going to wind up in prison.

We owe it to John Lewis, and Ruth Bader Ginsberg, and all the other progressive liberal leaders that we have lost!

We cannot drop the ball now. Let's keep our eyes on the prize!

70. Oh look! Another distraction!

Trump has the virus!
. . . a distraction from:
Trump stuffed up in the debate. And told the PB to keep alert.
. . . a distraction from:
Trump's tax returns.
. . . a distraction from:
etc

All the way back to . . . "Obama is a muslim born in Kenya" and "A successful businessman can run the country better than any politician".

So, is this another distraction to cover for all the other previous wrong steps and distractions?

Whatever.

Look at this way . . . there are government replacements standing by if Trump is incapacitated permanently.

The USA can afford to lose him.

Unlike the thousands of families and relatives who have lost loved ones, friends, work mates. No replacement for them. All 211,000 of them.

So color me highly disinterested in Trump's fate. There is just no comparison.

I’m becoming increasingly worried about the incubation period with VP Biden. Very worried he may have gotten it at the debate
