Leaked videos show Trump allies boasting about ballot harvesting which the president decried as fraud
Leaked videos taken from inside a secretive right-wing organization show many top conservative operatives openly advocating ballot harvesting during the 2020 presidential election, even as President Donald Trump accused Democrats of using such tactics to steal elections.
The Washington Post reports that the videos show longtime evangelical operative Ralph Reed boasting of his plans to harvest ballots from multiple places of worship for the benefit of Republican candidates.

J. Christian Adams, a former Justice Department official and the president of the Public Interest Legal Foundation, was also shown on video attacking mail-in voting, which he said he wanted to stop by any means necessary.
Be not afraid of the accusations that youre a voter suppressor, youre a racist and so forth, he said as he encouraged conservatives to go out of their way to block mail-in ballots.

(7,403 posts)One is the well-meaning individual that volunteers to take peoples sealed ballots to a designated drop-off box for them. That is not fraud but I would still strongly discourage doing that because it raises a security issue and that should be avoided. The only exception would be if both parties know and trust one another, such as a family member.
The other is what we are seeing here where there is a plot to deceive people into dropping off their ballots into a drop-off box that is private where the intention is to prevent it from being cast, such as the Republicans have done in California by putting out drop-off boxes that are identical in appearance to official drop-off boxes. The intent here is fraud. The Republicans in California have been ordered to remove those boxes but so far have defied the Court order (think about that -- expecting a pardon, maybe).

At least they're open about breaking the law. It's not that your supporters will be accused of being racists or voter suppressors -- it's that they are breaking the law, and they don't care.
Let's see how quiet they are when the Dems set up identical boxes in front of their churches.

(63 posts)Why isn't Reed and others in the video liable for plotting and inciting others to break the law? This is not an effort to arrest political opponents, only to make sure that our laws are enforced.

(14,174 posts).....while you are engaging in voter suppression and making it the most difficult you can for black voters to exercise their right to vote.
Seriously, how do they get away with such blatant hypocrisy. Are Trump cultists that stupid? Rhetorical question.
I like how he starts his admonishment with "Be not afraid...." An ancient colloquialism taken directly from the Bible. To endear himself to the religious sheep.

(108,026 posts)As the presidential campaign entered its final stages, a fresh-faced Republican activist named Charlie Kirk stepped into the spotlight at a closed-door gathering of leading conservatives and shared his delight about an impact of the coronavirus pandemic: the disruption of Americas universities. So many campuses had closed, he said, that up to a half-million left-leaning students probably would not vote.
So, please keep the campuses closed, Kirk, 26, said in August as the audience cheered, according to video of the event obtained by The Washington Post. Like, its a great thing.
The gathering in Northern Virginia was organized by the Council for National Policy, a little-known group that has served for decades as a hub for a nationwide network of conservative activists and the donors who support them. Members include Ginni Thomas, wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, and Leonard Leo, an outside adviser to President Trump who has helped raise hundreds of millions of dollars from undisclosed donors to support conservative causes and the nominations of conservative federal judges.
Videos provided to The Post covering dozens of hours of CNP meetings over three days in February and three in August offer an inside view of participants obsessions and fears at a pivotal moment in the conservative movement. The videos, recorded by CNP to share with its members, show influential activists discussing election tactics, amplifying conspiracy theories and describing much of America in dark and apocalyptic terms.

(338 posts)Considered the father of modern movement conservatism, the influential Wisconsin Republican once told a crowd, "I don't want everybody to vote. Elections are not won by a majority of people. They never have been from the beginning of our country, and they are not now."
The thing about movement conservatism as expressed through the modern GOP is that they barely try to hide their gamesmanship anymore. They are often right out in the open about it, in fact, for example with those fake "official" mail-in ballot boxes. Whereas whenever lesser such activity -- even patently legal activity -- is mounted by Democrats, the Rumpublicans go ballistic and demand investigations and hold endless hearings. It's a riff on "Animal Farm." All political animals are equal, but some are more equal than others.
