Chief: Indiana police recruit fired for ties to neo-Nazis
Source: ABC News
LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- A police recruit in northwestern Indiana was fired less than 24 hours after the department was notified that the officer was involved in a neo-Nazi online chat forum.
The Lafayette Police Department launched an investigation into Joseph Zacharek, who was hired in June, after being notified on Twitter Friday evening of his possible participation in a chat forum called Iron March in 2016.
The departments internal affairs division concluded the information was accurate and credible, and Zacharek was terminated, according to a Saturday news release from Chief Patrick Flannelly.
(snip)
Officer Zachareks comments were not in harmony with the spirit of cooperation and inclusion in the community that the Lafayette Police Department values, Flannelly said in the release.

(1,406 posts)I propose that the new Congress and administration establish a National Law Enforcement Academy that awards two year certificates and four-year BS degrees. It is aimed at strictly developing law enforcement personnel equipped with knowledge and skills that meet a national standard for graduation and commensurate pay when hired. For those who graduate, they can received salaries with added stipends depending on location of employment. For example, locations with high crime rates and more violent crimes would offer higher stipends for the first three years of employment. Lots of details to be filled in but this is just to give you the gist of the idea.
There would be really strict vetting of potential candidates in an attempt to weed out any men and women with issues that might make them problem police. One time bonus for returning to work in your neighborhood or home town or city etc. (more refinement). Police already employed would be eligible for enrollment in the Academy for virtual training for most non physical courses.
A focus should be for two years of civics, American and respective state history and cultural sensitivity training and Constitution history, law and states' rights, negotiation skill training and etc.
