President Trump attacked Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, the nation’s leading infectious disease specialist, as a “disaster,” said that people were “tired of” the coronavirus and want to be left “alone,” and denounced his media coverage in a call with campaign staff on Monday morning.

The call, which reporters were able to listen to as it took place, was between Mr. Trump and a broad array of campaign staff. The campaign manager, Bill Stepien, began the call by talking about metrics like the Republican ground game efforts that he said support the path he and others believe they have to victory.

But Mr. Trump had other things on his mind.

“People are tired of Covid,” Mr. Trump complained about the coronavirus. “People are tired of hearing Fauci and these idiots, all these idiots who got it wrong.”

It's really nothing "new" or even "breaking". It's been the strategy since day one of creation of that purported "task force". No one has even seen the Surgeon General much anymore either. And as a note about his importance, the Surgeon General heads up the Public Health Service, one of the "uniformed" services in the U.S. along with the army, navy, air force, marines (and I guess the "space force" now).
