Rush Limbaugh says his lung cancer is terminal
Source: cnn
New York (CNN Business)Rush Limbaugh, the conservative talk show radio host, is battling stage 4 lung cancer and said Monday he's had a setback in his prognosis.
"The scans did show some progression of cancer," he told listeners of his radio show. He later added: "It's not dramatic, but it is the wrong direction."
The 69-year-old was diagnosed with lung cancer in February.
Limbaugh said his doctors changed his medications in "hopes of keeping additional progression at bay for as long as possible." Prior to this week's update, he said that cancer "had been reduced, and it had become manageable."
"It's tough to realize that the days where I do not think I'm under a death sentence are over," Limbaugh said. "Now, we all are, is the point. We all know that we're going to die at some point, but when you have a terminal disease diagnosis that has a time frame to it, then that puts a different psychological and even physical awareness to it."

I don't wish anyone harm, but Rush with that cigar sticking out of his mouth always upset me, having survived cancer and brought back some really painful memories of my father dying from the same - a Camel and Pall Mall smoker.
Perhaps if he hadn't made a career out of being a hateful asshole, more people would have sympathy for him. I remember him mocking AIDS victims with ringing that fucking bell & when he called 12-year-old Chelsea Clinton "a dog." Call me a bad person, but I couldn't care less.

(9,090 posts)get plenty of credit for that and the other death and destruction in leading the republican party on issues like global warming (such as 30 yrs of it, working with putin on 'climategate'), iraq (sadam, weapons of mass destruction), environmental deregulation, GWBush, Trump, and most recently, convincing millions that covid is a hoax and an attempt to take down trump - and getting thousands of people sick and killed
yeah, america's really going to miss you, limbaugh.... fuck you
as a matter of fact, this is an excellent time to destroy RW radio - since he's announcing he's done the ad industry has to adjust and there's no one blowhard to replace him with on all those 600 stations. there's no one asshole liar who can dominate messaging now, who the con and kremlin think tanks can trust to get it right and lead and keep the rest in line. the different station owners are going to prefer different blowhards or usee it as an excuse to finally switch programming. they and the ad industry have to adjust and can't get the same ad revenue for those hours now, and this would be the perfect time to force the ad industry to break up the monopoly

the russian hack happened around thurs, wikileaks got involved, even jerome corsi and trump got involved, and by monday everything was ready for limbaugh to go and spend the whole week making sure there would be no cooperation from republican senators and probably even some dumbshit conservadems, when obama headed to copenhagen the week after
a couple of years ago a couple of journalists noticed the similarities between that event and the ccllinton /dnc hacking event.
he's another russian tool. putin's dependence on fossil fuels means denial is a moneymaker, like the kochs etc - but moreso

(12,712 posts)He has had not change of heart, no epiphany and has expressed no regret for spewing toxic rhetoric on a vile right-wing Pravda radio show.
I guess that does not fit into his lifelong pattern and the psychological and physical awareness of his impending demise does not seem to expand beyond himself, which, of course I did not expect. What makes a difference is his that he is in a position to influence many people with a sudden turnabout now, unlike people who die alone in a room with COVID-19, etc. He could do that and shock millions of his listeners, but that won't occur to him, methinks.
Obviously, his self-righteousness and service to his ego will accompany him unto death--the great equalizer.
My only response to his encounter with his mortality would probably fit his framework: Rush, we all have to die and sometimes that's for the greater good, too.

Rush fought hard against smoking bans on airplanes, restaurants, etc. He'd site tobacco and fossil fuel industry propaganda that 2nd smoke was harmless, climate change was a hoax. His listeners would call in and start with "Cigar smoking dittos" and "Big SUV dittos" etc.

"Have you ever noticed how all composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble Jesse Jackson?" (Source)
On Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb: "I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well. There is a little hope invested in McNabb, and he got a lot of credit for the performance of this team that he didn't deserve. The defense carried this team." [Limbaugh resigned from ESPN's Sunday NFL Countdown pregame show after uproar over these comments.]

On Barack Obama, during the 2008 election: "A veritable rookie whose only chance of winning is that he's black."
"If any race of people should not have guilt about slavery, it's Caucasians. The white race has probably had fewer slaves and for a briefer period of time than any other in the history of the world ... And yet white guilt is still one of the dominating factors in American politics. It's exploited, it's played upon, it is promoted, used, and it's unnecessary." (Source)

On Hurricane Irma: "You can accomplish a lot just by creating fear and panic. You don't need a hurricane to hit anywhere. All you need is to create the fear and panic accompanied by talk that climate change is causing hurricanes to become more frequent and bigger and more dangerous, and you create the panic, and it's mission accomplished, agenda advanced." [Limbaugh later evacuated his Florida home because of the hurricane.]
On the Central American migrant caravan heading toward the U.S. in 2018: "The objective is to dilute and eventually eliminate or erase what is known as the distinct or unique American culture ... This is why people call this an invasion."
On LGBT politicians getting elected: "I guarantee there'd be some people in the Republican establishment who will now think, 'Yeah, we need to do this. We need to provide a home, we need to provide a comforting atmosphere for the tranny community and the gay community.' But those people are voting Democrat anyway."
On the dangers of secondhand smoking, and smoking in general: "That is a myth. That has been disproven at the World Health Organization and the report was suppressed. There is no fatality whatsoever. There's no even major sickness component associated with secondhand smoke. It may irritate you, and you may not like it, but it will not make you sick, and it will not kill you...Firsthand smoke takes 50 years to kill people, if it does. Not everybody that smokes gets cancer. Now, it's true that everybody who smokes dies, but so does everyone who eats carrots ... I would like a medal for smoking cigars, is what I'm saying."
I had many long drives in rural PA back and forth to school in the 80s and early 90s before satellite radio and AM was often my only option. On came that bombastic know it all voice self congratulating himself on how many radio stations he was now on. This was the time when he'd go after anyone his ditto-heads made him aware of that had disparaged his syndicated show between commercials or after the local DJ took back the station. Out of my radio came the name of a person, who he'd identified as "hostile" to him and his listeners, that shared my last name. Mine isn't a common last name except on some lonely island out in the far Pacific. I shook my head because there was a good chance this person was a distance family relation and here was this blow hole actively asking this person be fired for for having the gall to disagreeing with him. I don't know if they actually were family relations or if they got fired but I heard of others who lost their jobs for speaking out against this loon.
May he be buried in a lonely field of grass up on a hill with a tall obelisk marking his passing. And may his grave be frequented by many people who are walking their dogs in this lovely setting. And may those dogs of good taste urinate on his marker for eternity.
