Leaked Reports Show White House Knew Of COVID-19 Spike As Trump Downplayed Crisis
Source: Huffington Post
The White House has been aware for more than a month that coronavirus cases have been surging nationwide as President Donald Trump has publicly downplayed the virus and held crowded events, according to private documents obtained and released Tuesday by a key House committee.
Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.), chair of the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, released six weekly White House coronavirus task force reports showing that the White House has known since just after Labor Day that COVID-19 cases are skyrocketing and that there is a serious need for more testing and mask mandates.
But the White House chose to hide these reports, according to Clyburn, as Trump publicly claimed in September the coronavirus affects virtually nobody and hosted potential superspreader events in states the task force warned had spikes in cases, including Wisconsin, Minnesota and North Carolina.
Until now, the task force reports were shared privately with state governments but were not disclosed to the public.

This latest disclosure just confirms that Trump is psychopath in that he is again "playing it down" and packing in his supporters into super spreader events even though the White House knows that COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations have been going up since Labor Day.
While this is to be expected of Trump, what about other Republicans like DeSantis? Or, what about Scott Atlas who has also been playing down the virus?

WASHINGTON (AP) President Donald Trump talked in private about the deadly coronavirus last February, even as he was declaring to America it was no worse than the flu and insisting it was under control, according to a new book by journalist Bob Woodward. Trump said Wednesday he was just being a cheerleader for the nation and trying to keep everyone calm.
His public rhetoric, Trump told Woodward in March, was part of a strategy to deliberately minimize the danger. I wanted to always play it down, the president said. I still like playing it down because I dont want to create a panic.
Trump, according to the book, acknowledged being alarmed by the virus, even as he was telling the nation that it would swiftly disappear.
Coming less than eight weeks before Election Day, the revelations in the book accompanied by recordings Woodward made of his interviews with Trump provide an unwelcome return of public attention to the presidents handling of the pandemic that has so far killed about 190,000 Americans. He is currently pushing hard for a resumption of normal activity and trying to project strength and control to bolster his political position in his campaign against Democrat Joe Biden.

(22,048 posts)How does Trump's strategy of denial make any sense?
Is he really that insane that he cannot see reality?
Never mind.
