Sen. Lindsey Graham faces ethics complaint over call to top election official in Georgia about ballo

WASHINGTON Sen. Lindsey Graham, a staunch ally of the president, is the target of an ethics complaint after his controversial phone call with a key election official in Georgia over how the state counts ballots.
Georgias Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger accused Graham earlier this week of pressuring him to find ways to exclude or invalidate legally cast absentee ballots and reverse Trumps loss in the state, an accusation the South Carolina Republican called "ridiculous."
Graham said he had also spoken with Arizona's Republican Gov. Doug Ducey and was briefed about the process in Nevada, both swing states that helped Joe Biden beat President Donald Trump for the White House.

A complaint filed Wednesday to the Senate Select Committee on Ethics asks the panel to investigate Graham's phone call with Raffensperger, whether Graham suggested not counting all legal votes and whether he had threatened election officials, who are in the midst of a recount, with a Senate investigation. The complaint was filed by Walter Shaub, a former top ethics watchdog for the federal government under President Barack Obama; Richard Painter, the top ethics lawyer under President George W. Bush; and Claire Finkelstein, who heads the University of Pennsylvania's Center for Ethics and the Rule of Law.

(4,907 posts)Can ordinary citizens file ethics complaints against US Senators? If so, some good citizens of Georgia should double down on this complaint.

(111,339 posts)but this is what the independent prosecutor law was for, just this situation, someone who wasn't beholden to the executive the way Mueller was and can't be terminated if s/he steps on a lot of toes.
This is what will have to be done if these crooks are to face any consequences, and they must. They were allowed to skate after Nixon and after Reagan. We can't afford to do it again.

(111,339 posts)No incoming president wants to get bogged down in this stuff with the opposing party screaming "witch hunt!" and stonewalling everything.
An independent prosecutor is really the only way to go with this sort of thing, keep Biden's hands relatively clean so he can go about repairing a lot of damage.
I don't think he wants the House completely bogged down, either. What can't happen is just letting this drop. If we do that, we'll have no country left the next time that gang of crooks gets in.

(111,339 posts)who have reason to harbor a deep and abiding hatred for this rotten bunch.
I honestly don't expect to see Dumdum spend a day in prison, although I do expect him to bankrupt the last of his business empire in the effort to delay criminal proceedings until he is dead.
The ones I want to see thrown into prison are all his enablers. Without them, he'd have been nothing. Without them, he'd have been removed from office. Without them, he will be nothing in the future. Malignant narcissists don't really exist except in the eyes of their enablers. Isolation is the worst thing I can think to do to Dumdum.
