Biden calls for the nation to 'unite, heal and rebuild in 2021'

Source: The Hill

President-elect Joe Biden shared a New Year's Eve message on Twitter on Thursday calling for the nation to "unite, heal and rebuild in 2021."

"The challenges we face as a nation will not disappear overnight, but as we look forward to the start of a new year, I'm filled with fresh hope about the possibilities of better days to come," he wrote.

Biden's post comes as the U.S. seeks to turn the page on a particularly tough year when millions of Americans have experienced hardship. During 2020, the nation grappled with the coronavirus pandemic that has infected more than 19 million people and killed more than 344,000 according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.

The various shutdowns that occurred in an effort to mitigate the coronavirus also led to thousands of businesses, small and large, to shutter. Nearly 10.7 million people across the country lost their jobs as a result.

While I do agree we can't forget we're dealing with Republican assholes.

Joe is making a lot of healing statements which is what he should be doing.
But he knows how to fight.
Trump should not push Joe too far.
Joe is Irish, you can only push them so far.

President elect Biden should not be talking about healing. he should be talking about taking down the fascists, pointing out all of hte bills that mcconnell has been sitting on. talking about mcconnell's blatant hypocrisy as well as graham's. he should be calling out every lousy, corrupt, traitorous republican until the light of day shines on them and the vast majority of Americans realize what the republilcan party is. then and only then can we even think about healing.

We have to work to vote out all the Republicans who have been to enable the tragedy that is a Trump presidency, which has brought death and misery to so many and who are willing to burn down the foundations of our Democracy in order to keep the chaos ongoing.

You can't have one without the other. I mean, FFS, we're still in the MIDDLE of a coup attempt by the other side.

Right after we smash the Fascist bastards, calling themselves Republicans, to smithereens, and send them home crying to their mommies with black eyes and torn clothes.

Then we can play nice. Fair is fair.

I’m not willing to unite for the sake of warm fuzzy statements of peace and tranquillity in the new year on Twitter.

There are some serious fucking issues that need to be reconciled and eliminated.

To be honest; there are a few to which there is no reconciliation of their behavior.

healing cannot begin until the cancer that is the current republican party is dealt with. those guilty of corruption need to be punished. the white supremacists need to be dealt with. we cannot heal until the issues we have are dealt with. gerald ford screwed the entire nation by pardoning a criminal president and then saying it was time to heal. there was no healing, it was covering up a festering wound that will never go away until it is eradicated.
we need to show all of the American people what scumbags mcconnell, and graham, and the rest of their ilk are.
there is much much work to be done before healing begins.
just as at the end of WWII, there was no healing until the nazi's were dealt with. (even though we fell short of what we should have done)
we screwed up Reconstruction at the end of the Civil War by ending it before the cancer of the southern traitors could be erased. the traitors were forgiven, though they didnt ask for it and were unrepentant. we could have gone a long way to erasing the racism in this nation right there. but there was no healing.
healing cannot begin until what causes the need for heeling is destroyed.

If Ping May Mitch should retain control of the Senate, he'd gladly let the country collapse around him than move a finger to work with Biden on anything.

when they're serving prison sentences with no hope of parole or pardons, then we can unite and heal.
