Biden inauguration theme will be 'America United'

Source: The Hill

The theme of President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration next week will be “America United,” planners announced Monday, a reference to his pledge to bring the country together when he takes office.

The Presidential Inaugural Committee also said that Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will participate in a wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery alongside former presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and Bill Clinton after the inauguration ceremonies, in a show of bipartisanship. Their spouses will also participate.

The committee separately plans to install an art display on the National Mall called the “Field of Flags” comprised of 191,500 U.S. flags and 56 pillars of light. These are intended to represent Americans who cannot travel to Washington, D.C., to attend the inauguration on Jan. 20 in person due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Individuals can donate to a group of nonprofit organizations selected by the committee as its partners in service in order to become a “symbolic sponsor” of the flag display.

I love the sentiment, and the promise of unity ... in general. But damn, this is a weird time to be invoking it.

... because on Planet Trump, there are mountains of evidence that he stole the election. The only people who can do anything about that alternate reality are the people who created it, and that's not going to happen. Instead, they're doubling down, expanding their conspiracy theories and enemies lists as necessary, and using the very fact that they have deceived millions of Americans as a reason why their fascist cult leader should not be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

let the Rs and Trumpers try to attack that theme!

Really, I don't know what else he could use as an inauguration theme to speak to this moment meaningfully and not just rile up the Trumpers. They'll be riled up anyway. Why give them something to actually chew on?

So yeah, while I think as an expectation "America United" is pretty naive, I like it!

have to get tough. Really tough. And I will 100% support him in this, in what will be needed, nay, more than likely, needed.

These people won't listen to reason, have shown themselves clearly beyond rationalizing, beyond trying to make sense to. We've all seen this already in some of our friends, some of our families.

I would even advocate for a 14th Amendment subcommittee, anyone that had a hint of supporting this uprising in any manner should be removed from Congress (something came out on the 14th Amendment I think yesterday that can be used to deny seats to these spoiled brats that carried on their temper tantrum).

We have to just stop it with the wishful thinking. I fear that the Biden admin is going to step in the same mud as Obama. Forever reaching out for that hand that never reaches back.

In fact, by living this delusion, Republicans can use that quarter given to immediately step forward and occupy it and keep pushing with even more CT nonsense and bloated criticisms.

It should be more something like "America Justice" or something first. After rooting out the devils for the first months, only THEN could you re-brand to "America United". Get all the ugliness and prosecutions out of the way first. No matter how much the wailing and gnashing of teeth on the other side, remember that in politics a day is like a week , and a week a month etc. Clean the wound now, get out all the crud, dress it to keep any infection from developing, and bandage it good with new safeguards.

As I said above, the federal agencies can come down hard on the white wing terrorists. Biden can stay above the fray and push the “unity“ theme.

Visibly seen and vocally elucidated by the top leadership of the governing party. Because if its all keep "behind the scenes" and Joe is talking like its all over, and how Republicans are going to join him in finding common ground and promise to be nice, a couple of troubling things would develop.

1. The seriousness of the breach of the Capital building would be diminished, which is great for Republicans I guess.

2. Besides, any investigations and/or punishments would be not only reported in the far right media, it would be exagerated. And it would be laid at Democrats feet and also Joe Biden. No matter how much he cries he is staying above the fray and has nothing to do with the investigations. In fact, they'd use that as an example of some kind of dishonest duplicity by Biden. So that won't work anyways. Its better to be out in front of it.

And lets not be naive here, Merrick Garland will not do ANYTHING without approval from President Joe. That's not to say Biden would prevent his AG from doing his job, especially if there was no choice, and the evidence was too blatant. I'm positive that Biden would never stand in the way of any investigation based on facts (ie.. not massive 2020 election fraud). And Garland would always get that approval. But as far as how far, how deep, how much time and manpower to spend on it, Biden would have a say. ie. going after RW terrorist groups, but stopping at trying to charge Senators or House members.

I do not think the leadership of the party wants it to look like the AG is spending 100% of its time "going after" Republicans and their base. And they are afraid of that. But Joe cannot be swayed by that perception, amplified in the RW media. The whole D party, from top to bottom, must be vigil, speak as one voice, that until all the rocks are uncovered, and all the sedition is punished, they are going full tilt. People never understand how its better to rip off the bandaid sooner rather than later. Dress the wound properly this time. And only then, reach out, to those Republicans left who agree with rooting out the terrorists.

Does this mean he intends to divert attention from his problems by invading Canada and Mexico or is he forgetting that America is a continent and never has been a country and the USA only got to occupy 1/3 of the continent.

Don't gaslight neighbors with veiled threats of invasion. The indigenous peoples know how that game ends.
