Feds get first indictments in cases related to Capitol riot

Source: Politico

Federal prosecutors in Washington, D.C., have obtained their first indictments in connection with the siege of the Capitol last week by demonstrators supporting President Donald Trump.

A grand jury indicted at least two men Monday in cases related to the violent events of Jan. 6.

Mark Leffingwell, 51, of Seattle, was charged with a felony violation of the Federal Anti-Riot Act, a law passed by Congress in 1968 that made it a federal crime to interfere with law enforcement in the midst of a civil disorder.

Leffingwell is also charged with two counts of assault on a police officer and four other charges.

If they are from Vermont or Maine, for example, they can vote absentee from prison, and 19 additional states allow parolees to vote.

Disclosure: not an attorney, but this is my undetstanding of how it can work.

If this had been a bank robbery, would they be charged this way? Most likely.

Would they have casually waltzed out of the bank, partied for a couple of days & boarded airliners upon whuch they misbehaved?

HELL NO.

Anyone know what max sentence is?

until Biden is President before charging anyone so Trump doesn't have their names and can pardon them.

Seems it would be best to charge the more significant instigators when DT can't pardon.

It looked like trespassing was going to be the main charge on a lot of them.
