Tensions flare between House Republicans, Capitol Police over metal detectors
Source: The Hill
The lawmakers were heard by reporters complaining about the detectors and railing against Democrats as they tried to enter the House chamber to vote, saying they were not consulted by Democratic leadership about the decision to install the devices.
Youre taking valuable resources completely away from where it needs to be, and you guys did it without any consultation with the minority, Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) shouted at House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) before calling the detectors bullshit.
You are creating a problem you do not understand the ramifications of, Rep. Steve Womack (R-Ark.) yelled at the police manning the detectors, shouting at them to get back and dont touch me.

(3,502 posts)You can't walk into any federal building with a gun (for the most part; I've heard rumors that some federal judges pack). No one should be exempt from a rule that the vast majority of others have to follow.

Or is it worse, they are still fighting the trailing battles of their own Lost Cause?

(22,149 posts)The rules do apply to you! And anyone giving the cops there grief should be fined or censored.
I said yesterday, I didn't understand why they don't have metal detectors like courthouses and airports do. If they're not packing, they don't need to worry.

(11,087 posts)With their voter base, getting caught with a gun might gain them votes.
So I wonder if they have other things in their bags or pockets that they don't want the cops to find if they get patted down?
Drugs. I bet it will be drugs. The cops looking for guns may find drugs and drug paraphernalia. Note to future lawmakers: Leave your bong in your office. Don't take it with you to the floor.

And what exactly are those ramifications, Mr. Womack? Please explain. Please share what you know about the future plans of the insurrectionists.

(4,363 posts)the republiCon snowflakes have proven that there is not one of them who can be trusted. Therefore, send them through the detectors. I would pass a rule that if they refuse, they will not be allowed on the house floor.
The GOP imbeciles scream and project the loudest over anything even as they commit, or provoke others to commit the most egregious crimes known to our country. Personally, I say they are worthless to the USA. Throw them out of congress and make them clean latrines for those they made homeless. If they scream more, just mouth gag them. They have completely lost me with the capitol storming. Can you tell?

(8,311 posts)But handguns have never been allowed in the House chambers themselves before, not even carried by Representatives themselves.

(13,110 posts)I meant video of them refusing to go through the metal detectors.
I wanted to see them being the asses that they are.
I watched the majority of the proceedings, but missed the action.

(8,311 posts)... just that they thought what happened made them want their replacement for manhood (or in Boebert's case, her desired response to every conspiracy theory) right there so they themselves can blow the insurrectionists away.
And that's allowed -- everywhere EXCEPT the House (and I believe Senate) floors. Aides are supposed to hold their sidearms while they are in session, and there are a few other laws.
Which honestly would work better in such an insurrection, really, if she thought about it. The normal thing is to have armed people paid to take care of the House/Senate chambers, especially Pelosi, Pence, and the President pro Tempore of the Senate. Aka, the Secret Service. Secret Service people either want to know who all has guns besides themselves beforehand, or want the guns.
If she'd left her heat with her aides, then if they'd breached the door they were hiding in -- like they almost got to Pelosi's aides -- THEN that's when a sidearm makes sense.
And yes, Reps/Senators allowed to carry on Capitol grounds and as they come to and from the Capitol grounds, as that's seen as one of the times someone could attempt to harm them and know where they'd be.
