Authorities tracking multiple threats for a 'week of siege' after Capitol breach
Source: ABC News
ABC News has received an exclusive detailed look at the array of potential threats federal authorities are tracking in the days leading up to the presidential inauguration.
Authorities are tracking up to 10 protests or demonstrations that are being promoted to occur in Washington, D.C. between now and Inauguration Day for what some groups are calling the Week of Siege, according to a law enforcement source.
Federal law enforcement assessments warn of potentially violent elements who may feel emboldened by the successful breach of the Capitol on Jan. 6. There is also concern among federal law enforcement agencies that the shooting death of Ashli Babbitt during the attempted insurrection, the ongoing impeachment of President Donald Trump, and the pending peaceful transfer of power to President-elect Joe Biden could raise the stakes for extremists.
Authorities are paying particular attention to an event organized by a collection of right-wing extremist groups, including the Proud Boys. Their ambitions include an idea to hold an event in the coming days to capture and detain Democratic politicians and set up a new government led by Republican leaders of their choosing, according to internet postings reviewed by law enforcement.

(9,462 posts)America for not re-electing him. He knows Biden will be inaugurated. He just wants as much chaos and destruction he can create during it. If there are deaths, even better. He wants people to remember him when they think of Bidens inauguration.

(506 posts)Everyone is focused on the capitol. I believe the threat will be lodged in places that we are not considering.

(14,572 posts)They can't take on the security now in DC, maybe a suicide lone wolf or sniper.
But, good money something pops off at a state capital or two.

(21,151 posts)I fear parts of D.C. are going to be a literal war zone. There are too many that consider themselves George Washington and not the GRU-inspired insurrectionists.
I do agree we'll see some states seeing issues, too.
I totally get and agree to your point about them being driven by emotion and not logic, but Americans are not like people from the Middle East, they are not going to go into this shit KNOWING they are going to die for it.
They may end up dying while doing it because they feel so fucking entitled they don't see that happening, but once shit gets real 99% of them are going to cut and run.
You saw that last week when they were trying to push through that last barricade to the House floor, if they did not shoot Babbitt, the would have broken in and god knows what would have happened, but once she was shot they retreated.
I just think DC is so hardened now, they don't have the equipment, fire power, man power to get get anywhere near the capital or inauguration with a group of people. Again, its possible some lone wolf could do a suicide event, or perhaps a sniper can find a blind spot to get through.
You might have some the REALLY simple minded dolts show up by them selves and wander around a bit. But the more organized groups that are the real threat aren't going down there to die at the wall.
