State Attorney General Sues NYPD Over Handling of Protests, Demands Federal Monitor
Source: NY1
NEW YORK - New York State Attorney General Letitia James is suing the New York City Police Department in an effort to install a federal monitor to oversee them.
The lawsuit comes after the AGs office found widespread civil rights abuses by police against Black Lives Matter protesters over the summer.
According to the attorney general, the lawsuit "specifically charges the NYPD, the City of New York, Mayor Bill de Blasio, NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea, and NYPD Chief of Department Terence Monahan with failing to address this longstanding pattern of abuse by not properly training, supervising, and disciplining officers to prevent misconduct, despite knowledge and public admission that it violated the rights of New Yorkers."
James says the complaint also notes NYPD officers "unlawfully arrested legal observers, medics, and other workers performing essential services without probable cause and in direct violation of executive orders from Mayor de Blasio."

(8,064 posts)1. People need to learn that Letitia James is not someone you want to mess with.
She knows what she's doing, and she knows she's on the right side.

show Blue Bloods drives me insane; I swear its whole purpose is to whitewash and idolize the NYPD while denigrating and abasing any one or group who says the slightest thing against them and to deny that there's any kind of institutional problem with it at all. I really had enough when they had one of their inimitable shows lauding the "stop and frisk" policy and making those against it seem like they have something to hide and totally disregarding any racial issues.
