Scoop: Gina Haspel threatened to resign over plan to install Kash Patel as CIA deputy

Source: axios

CIA Director Gina Haspel threatened to resign in early December after President Trump cooked up a hasty plan to install loyalist Kash Patel, a former aide to Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), as her deputy, according to three senior administration officials with direct knowledge of the matter.

Why it matters: The revelation stunned national security officials and almost blew up the leadership of the world's most powerful spy agency. Only a series of coincidences — and last minute interventions from Vice President Mike Pence and White House counsel Pat Cipollone — stopped it.

Behind the scenes: Trump had spent his last year in office ruminating over Haspel. Some of the president's hardcore allies, including Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo, were publicly raising doubts in his mind about Haspel.

He grew to distrust her, and instead wanted a loyal ally at the top of the CIA. But she wasn't the only national security official the president wanted out. Six days after the election, he fired Defense Secretary Mark Esper.................................

I recall @mypillow Lindal at WH today. His document mentioned getting rid of Cipollone--and putting in kash Patel [not all of the notes were readable.] so it is confusing.

"If you do this, you are going to have a full scale rebellion at the CIA. Many agents there already hold this administration in suspicion. Do you really want the entire agency, an institution whose bread and butter is the use of covert action to neutralize who they want, seeking vengeance against you and your family?...Sir?"

Nunes protégé fed Ukraine info to Trump

Kashyap Patel, a senior National Security Council staffer with no official role on Ukraine policy, had a direct pipeline to the president.

Did he ever create legislation and take it to congress and push it to law?
Tax cuts (for the rich) came from congress and were put before him even the judges he nominated came from another organization, he has done nothing. Saved no kids, helped no elderly or benefited the country in an way. You can't just throw money at business and call it an economy. A complete and total waste.

Biden's team has a tremendous amount to clean up and investigate.

Biden's national security team is at least qualified to do the job correctly:
