First GOP Lawmaker to Back Impeachment Says Capitol Riots 'Worse Than People Realized'

Source: Newsweek

Rep. John Katko, the first Republican lawmaker to back the impeachment of President Donald Trump after the Capitol riots, wants a congressional commission into the unrest because he believes it was not just a spontaneous attack.

Katko, who is the top Republican on the House homeland security committee, said he had received intelligence briefings about planning and security shortcomings before the riots that left "a lot of unanswered questions" over "who was involved and when they were involved."

"I've had a lot of classified briefings on it, and it's deeply troubling," Katko told Syracuse.com. "I was left with a profound sense that it was much worse than people realized."

Katko did not give further details of the briefings, but told the news outlet he was concerned enough that any probe should warrant a commission with the power to subpoena witnesses.

Making what amounts to gestures is not going to solve anything. Make sure the situation has consequences. Strong ones! Oh, by the way Rethug Rep., it wasn't worse than 'we' realize, it was worse than YOU realize. And, now you are seeing reality, sir. A good start!

Are we going to get to know the basic truth behind this attack on Jan 6? First, Trump replaces several DOD related leaders after the election, refuses to accept anything about leaving office, members of several groups have inside information on the capital, including a plan to gas many congressional members while underground - others hunting down Pence and Pelosi with intentions to capture/kill. So if members of some of these groups claim to be led personally or indirectly by Trump, did Trump have intimate knowledge of these plans? Did he think congress would likely be decimated by this attack, and if so, what were his plans for the aftermath? Marshall law, like some close to Trump were suggesting prior to the attack? Emergency rule, banana republic style? Even though Trump has lost his Twitter platform, he was very quiet during the aftermath despite reports at being delighted during the attack. At some point, reporting by the media needs to investigate what has already been made public and stitch together some of this. Also, will investigations into this attack and any planning run into the midterms? I hope Democrats run midterm campaigns with messaging that we are the party of fixing what the republican party of white supremacist rule has destroyed since Nixon's southern strategy and Reagan's dismantling of the Great Society.

Um no... "The people" have been WATCHING all the thousands of hours of videos of what happened and just based on what was published so far, "WE" knew it was BAD. And despite all that, the GOP continued to stoke the bullshit and doubled down, blaming "antifa" and other manufactured boogeymen.

It has been the fucking GOP leadership and their sheeple who obviously HADN'T seen what was going on around them while they were hunkered down, maskless and guffawing it up, while wantonly making sure that they would be the next jackasses to initiate new COVID-19 super-spreader incidents among the rank and file of Congress.
