Trump administration had no coronavirus vaccine distribution plan: White House

Source: Reuters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - There was no distribution plan for the coronavirus vaccine set up by the Trump administration as the virus raged in its last months in office, new President Joe Biden’s chief of staff, Ron Klain, said on Sunday.

“The process to distribute the vaccine, particularly outside of nursing homes and hospitals out into the community as a whole, did not really exist when we came into the White House,” Klain said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Biden, a Democrat who took over from Republican President Donald Trump on Wednesday, has promised a fierce fight against the pandemic that killed 400,000 people in the United States under Trump’s watch.

He signed a series of executive orders last week, including some that target vaccine distribution.

They had neither the time nor the inclination to worry about trivial things like saving lives. Besides, nobody in that gang really wanted to see precious life saving vaccine going to the wrong people, the ones without money or power.

Plans are for suckers and losers.

He spent his entire life, watching TV, reading the New York papers, then I suppose his twitter feed, looking for reactions to him.

".....reading the New York papers"

Certainly not READING them - if anything, taking a crayon and circling his name every time he could find it - no matter WHAT it said about him - and only doing THAT when there was a commercial break on FAUX SPEWS.

But the rest - you nailed it!

I get it that Trump had no plan but I think Americans need to see something starting now. Even an announcement of 10 UPS trucks with vaccine leaving for 10 distribution centers set up by the new administration. For morale, the Biden administration needs to announce something very specific on Monday.

Folks want specifics....for example, MMM company will begin production of this swab in this quantity starting Wednesday. These vaccine sites will open on Thursday. Etc.

Cut all the red tape and start announcing very specific things that are being done immediately. This is where Trump was brilliant in his marketing, he would have the CEO of MMM flown to the White House to make an announcement.

Biden-Harris must be great marketers too.....announce in the morning very specific things being done, even if they are symbolic at first. People are trained for instant gratification, throw them something.

Frankly, I am a bit surprised Biden-Harris did not have a few shovel ready things in place during the transition. For example, there is a shortage of vials for testing. Why not have gotten 2 private companies on board and announce on day 1 that they would start production of the vials? This was information widely available in the news. Just an example....but certainly things like that could have been done the last 3 months.

Or why not have had the CEOs of Moderna and Pfizer at the White House last week and update the amount of vaccine being produced and how the Biden Harris team would help them improve the distribution?

I guess I am surprised that Biden-Harris did not have more than just executive orders to announce. Seems a few symbolic but specific things could have been in place for them to show the American people on day 1 or 2.

and they found out that the vaccine stockpile wasn't there. They were not told otherwise and therefore did not have any buffer room.
Also, they could not start causing any confusion between manufacturers and producers of the vaccine, governors, mayors, etc.
They still have to figure out the budgetary aspects to finance all of this.

This is a massive lift and they came in with a vastly experienced team with a plan but they had to figure out all of the moving pieces.

They could not go in and start any of this without seeing what had already been done or was being done. As we all know, Asshole's administration did what they could to keep them in the dark.

There was nothing "in place" for them from the previous administration. They abandoned the American people. Biden has not.

it was simply to send much more of the vaccine to red states or just give them priority in proportion to quality of ass kissing.

I also have a stinking feeling they did the same with the Postal Service makeover.

Everything that administration did was transactional.....

Did Biden Inherit ‘Nonexistent’ COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution Plan?

What's True
The Biden administration signed executive orders to create a new national plan to distribute COVID-19 vaccines after states and hospitals reported dwindling supplies and unclear guidelines for how to immunize Americans under Trump.

What's False
However, the Trump administration did have a plan in place for distributing COVID-19 vaccines, and Dr. Anthony Fauci, Biden's chief COVID-19 medical adviser, said the new administration would incorporate some aspects of that Trump-era strategy in its ongoing work.

I want my president to carefully adhere to the facts. I have already listened to enough lies to do me for a lifetime. Is Snopes wrong?

From the OP:

“The process to distribute the vaccine, particularly outside of nursing homes and hospitals out into the community as a whole, did not really exist when we came into the White House,” Klain said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Hospitals, nursing homes, and school employees vaccinated has been the low hanging fruit because there's already communication infrastructures in place. That's already pretty much happened. The harder part is getting vaccines into the arms of everybody else. This is the stage Klain was talking about and he's right. Here in WV we can't even sign up online. They are supposed to fire one up tomorrow morning, we'll see. This is chaos.

That is always the republicans way. Their plan was for states to figure distribution out on their own and with no financial help.
