The Latest: Fauci says vaccine goal would cover 67 million
Source: AP
WASHINGTON -- Dr. Anthony Fauci said Sunday that President Joe Bidens goal of administering 100 million vaccinations in the first 100 days actually means about 67 million Americans should be protected from COVID-19 during that time.
Fauci, the governments top infectious diseases expert, said the presidents goal refers to 100 million shots, not people. Current vaccines require two shots.
Fauci maintained that goal could be difficult to meet even though the U.S. recently has been able to administer shots to about a million people a day. He explained that it will be harder to reach people once shots are given outside hospital and nursing home settings.
Fauci also told CBS Face the Nation that he supports a national commission to understand some of the problems in coordinating a COVID-19 response on the state and local level because states shouldnt just be told, Youre on your own.

(36,060 posts)not working. I was just thinking that where trips to drugstores or hospitals are distant, the vaccine might be welcome, and it could bring the in-the-arm total closer to 70%, is all.

They need to get testing done in kids. As long as kids in school are coming home and infecting others, it's going to be impossible to stop this spread. Many of their parents are not old enough to get vaccinated anytime soon.
It's not just old people at risk. I have a relative in his early 50s who is dying of COVID. He is the sole provider for a large family, heartbreaking.

(10,500 posts)That was my goal. I wanted to get the first dose in July, at the latest, the second dose no later than August, and be able to spend time with my extended family by Labor Day.
I hope the pace will pick up and it will be possible to get the vaccine six months from now. But it is starting to look like I will be lucky if I am vaccinated in time for Thanksgiving.

(11,296 posts)If they don't know, why not? The manufacturer must know their delivery schedule to the Federal government. I don't think the distribution numbers are there, time to get the numbers.

(1,910 posts)People really need to know more about what exactly is being done. Even tiny announcements such as 20 people being trained to give the vaccines and they will start in a certain place on Monday.....but is so critical that people see things on their news broadcasts rather than hearing about executive orders and plans.
Its super important that they start showing the media actual stuff being done differently as quickly as possible so they don't lose the messaging.

(13,041 posts)moon that's progress. Much better progress than the previous administration's no-plan strategy. Biden has forewarned that it will get worse before it gets better. He inherited a real disaster. 67M vaccinated within 100 days would be an amazing start.
