Police chief, officer under fire after bodycam video surfaces with racial slurs, explicit language

Source: ABC News

A police chief and an officer in Hamilton, Georgia, are out from their positions after video surfaced of comments both are seen making at a Black Lives Matter protest, ABC News affiliate WTVM reported.

Hamilton Police Department Chief Gene Allmond is reported to have resigned and Patrolman John Brooks was terminated according to the assistant to the Hamilton mayor, Julie Brown, WTVM reported.

Both officers were wearing bodycams at a BLM protest in Hamilton in June 2020. The video has since been made public.

In the video, a man speaking off-camera and a man on-camera make several comments with racial slurs and explicit language.

that one way to stop a lot of this is (1) After a second offense, make the officer in question pay for his own liability insurance; (2) Ensure that an officer that resigns and goes to another department - ensure that the liability for insurance continues and (3) do not let the Department or Union provide some type of sweetheart deal so that the liability is avoided. Oh, ensure that the liability premiums are 5X, then 10X, 20X the cost of regular liability that they pay for officers. And ensure that the community in question is aware of the record of the officers that they are hiring within their police departments.
