Major storm heads to Northeast after blanketing Midwest
Source: AP
After days of frigid temperatures, the Northeast braced for a whopper of a storm that could dump well over a foot of snow in many areas, create blizzard-like conditions and cause travel problems for the next few days.
The storm system blanketed parts of the Midwest in the most snow some places had seen in several years. Chicago got almost 7 inches of snow by Sunday morning, leading to the cancellation of a couple hundred flights at the citys two airports. In Wisconsin, snow depths in some counties near Lake Michigan had reached more than 15 inches, and the snow was still falling.
Thats more snow than weve seen in a decade, Chris Stumpf, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Sullivan, Wisconsin, told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Three to 5 inches of snow arrived in central Ohio by early Sunday, making for some slippery roads. Washington, D.C., and parts of Virginia had also received some snow, with up to 3 inches in some areas. By the afternoon, the snow was expected to reach Pennsylvania.

(4,637 posts)But it has blown just perfectly on to the covered deck to give the couch and chairs a covering. Figures. That stuff rarely gets wet. Smoking has now moved to the garage. Part of my entertainment for the day will be setting up a cozy lounge in there.
Stay warm and safe, my friends!

(18,402 posts)Only time Im glad we live in a condo now. Spent many decades shoveling deep snow in Buffalo, Minneapolis, and Boston. Its good not to have to deal with it anymore. We just look out our window.

(146,336 posts)This morning, there was just a dusting of snow, and it's 39 degrees this afternoon, so that melted. It shifted slightly southward, and kept me from having to start the snowblower today.
Sorry to those who are getting slammed. I know how you feel.

(65,213 posts)It was 5.5 when I cleared the driveway, back sidewalk and front of the house.
It snowed another inch since then.
I measured the snow on top of our recycling bin.
I'll get the other inch tomorrow.
We're 55-60 miles south & west of Chicago.

Extra food so I have choices, and house goods. Don't plan to go out for ?3+ days. A hat for indoors because the rarish 3rd year (not in a row) out of 11 years of when there's been so-so heat in my apt. Though just at the of this past Dec into early Jan it was it's usual toasty warm. 🤔
Got an extra blankie ! 😁 Have flashlights, extra batteries
-just- in case! Got thermals.👍
Stay Safe NE DU'rs.
And good luck Chicagoins, and Mid-Westerns digging out!
