Iowa bill would survey university employees about political affiliation
Source: Omaha World Herald
By Vanessa Miller
An Iowa state lawmaker has proposed a bill requiring the Board of Regents to survey all university employees to determine each persons political affiliation.
The bill would require regents to survey University of Iowa, Iowa State University and University of Northern Iowa employees about their political affiliation and report back to the Legislature by Dec. 30.
The survey results would not disclose names of individual employees.
Senate File 292 was introduced this week by State Sen. Jim Carlin, a Republican from Sioux City.

(46,122 posts)For the sake of due process, a bill has to state the reason why its enactment is necessary. Otherwise, there would be nothing but arbitrary laws passed just because they sound good at the time.

It is never a sin to lie to someone about something that's none of their business.

What they should pass is a requirement that everyone in public office wears a vest that shows the trademarks of the companies and organizations paying them to be there, just like a racing driver's overalls show his sponsorship.

(14,529 posts)Because I don't bring politics into the workplace. I choose workplaces where I don't have to. Really when we talk about conservative values and liberal values these days, often it is simply about whether people are 0, 1, 5, 10, 20 or 50 years behind the times in any real sense.
They have no business asking these questions anymore than anyone has any business stalking random lame people on the net. Hard to trust anyone these days.
Irl I have not contacted anyone I don't trust in a long time ..shrug. I have been fortunate in having exceptionally decent mentors, colleagues and coworkers prior to the last decade. The last decade of social engineering has really changed the landscape. Democracy is under attack. It is just that so many of the attacks are so stealthy they slip under the radar. I am not innately paranoid but at some point it is just vacuous to not see reality as it is.
I still often ignore it wrt trivialities because paranoia is unhealthy. It makes people give up on the possibility of true democracy.
Edit: I do worry that someone could maliciously smear me as an ecofascist. But that would mean that they did not read my posts and were actuated by malice alone. I have no fascistic leanings. It is probably a good thing I was never a parent...I would be lousy at disciplining anyone, since I usually think people should given a healthy environment and then left alone in the hope that they turn out decent and rational.
