President Joe Biden is so over his predecessor.
Im tired of talking about Donald Trump, he said during Tuesday nights town hall event in Milwaukee. I dont want to talk about him anymore.
He said it twice during the event, including when asked about Trumps second impeachment acquittal.
Look, for four years all thats been in the news is Trump, Biden explained. The next four years I want to make sure all the news is the American people.
True to that sentiment, Biden referred to Trump only as the former guy at another point.
Based on the reaction on social media, the president is hardly alone in the desire to move on:....................................................................

(1,568 posts)I always liked Uncle Joe and never understood why he didnt crush it in the primaries. He was meant to be VP to help pull Obama further left and then president now. I cant picture anyone else doing as well in the moment (and I was a big Warren fan).

(5,810 posts)a sense of relief since tRump is no longer blasting his hateful rhetoric out on a national megaphone. It does make a difference having hope and optimism coming our way instead of hate and vitriol. So the more we can shove that asshat out of our consciousness, the better! Thinking of him is like recalling a nightmare and suddenly realizing it is over. (Yes, I know he can still have influence on some, but not like when he was POTUS.)
So lets revel in the fact that the big bad Wolf is not breathing down our throats. He may not be gone but hes not at our door any more.

Edit to add: I just noticed a good portion of Late Breaking News posts have "Trump" in the title. I guess he'll be with us for a long time.

(11,563 posts)Remember, it was the constant free publicity that got him "elected." It didn't matter how outrageous or objectively awful his statements or behaviour, it was that old Hollywood saw:
"There is no such thing as bad publicity."
There SHOULD be, but in his case, there wasn't. Not enough, in any case.
PatSeg
(47,482 posts)should not be rewarded with primetime coverage. He did those things precisely because he knew the media would report it.

(11,563 posts)It was not a well-thought out and carefully-executed campaign strategy. It was analogous to a new pet or a very young child realizing something has worked to their advantage. There is no need to have it planned out, or use it sparingly so as to not blunt the effect.
More a matter of "Why abandon an effective strategy?" And even that is for others to analyze. The central character just toddles along, repeating whatever successful stratagem has worked.
PatSeg
(47,482 posts)He never went into politics to win. He wanted media attention to promote his brand. He was honestly surprised when part of the republican base loved his bizarre outrageous behavior, so he gave them more. You could watch him testing new material on the crowds and when he got positive feedback, he doubled down. "Oh look, that worked, lets do more of that." There was no real strategy or prepared speeches. He barely even had any campaign presence on the ground, because he wasn't trying to win.
One of the few times when Trump was really honest was when he expressed genuine amazement that he could do or say anything and not lose a vote. He was so unwittingly successful that later he ignored advice from more experienced people, because HIS WAY worked, so he was going to give people more of the same. Unfortunately, once he was in the White House, he started applying that same chaotic, shoot-from-the-hip strategy on "presidenting". He seemed to listen to more experienced staff a just bit in the beginning, but eventually, he either ignored them or fired them. He began to believe his own hype.
"Why abandon an effective strategy?" That is how Trump has functioned his entire adult life. If something worked once, it will work every time. Because he never changes, he assumes the same about everyone else.

(5,401 posts)How about that!
Good!
The hate mongers and supremacists and white power tiki torch wavers need a massive dose of that.
Plus a kick up the backside.
And a stint in jail if they act out their twisted thoughts.

(47,482 posts)I'm all for the media talking about the many lawsuits coming Trump's way, but the other stuff has been rehashed over and over again. There's not much more to be said, other than to file charges against him.
Also, if the former president chooses to release a statement denigrating his perceived enemies, that is not news, that is business as usual for him. He no longer has the political power he once had and ignoring him is the best way to get that message across.

Now there are going to be more clowns out there who think they can get publicity by being outrageous, dishonest, and vulgar.
