US officially rejoins the Paris climate accord

Source: CNN

By Veronica Stracqualursi and Michael Call

(CNN) - The United States officially rejoined the landmark international accord to limit global warming known as the Paris Agreement on Friday.

Hours after he was sworn-in on January 20, President Joe Biden signed an executive order beginning the 30-day process for the US to reenter the global pact.

The US had officially exited the agreement late last year on former President Donald Trump's orders, becoming the first and only country to formally pull out of the deal since it was adopted in 2015. Trump spent much of his time in office weakening many of the country's bedrock climate and environmental guardrails.

On Friday, Secretary of State Tony Blinken called the Paris Agreement an "unprecedented framework for global action."

Personally, I don't think Paris was/is anywhere near enough to stop Humanity's slow-motion suicide, but the act of rejoining is symbolic of America rejoining The World, rather than whatever planet Douchebag Donny came from!

I hope the USA will maintain rational leadership long enough for us to become a trusted partner to our allies again. Four years with a Putin stooge in the White House did enormous damage.

I wouldn't blame the other signatories if they were wary of anything a US Administration signed henceforth, since it appears from our politics that everything could change every two to four years. They may need us, but they should not trust us.
