WASHINGTON President Joe Biden will hold a virtual tête-à-tête with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Tuesday his first bilateral meeting focused on the response to COVID-19, economic cooperation and other shared interests among the two close allies.
White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said she expects Biden to highlight the "strong and deep partnership between the United States and Canada as neighbors, friends, and NATO allies."
Ahead of their meeting, Biden and Trudeau gave brief remarks to the press in the Roosevelt Room where the virtual meeting is taking place. Biden was seated at one end of the table, with Vice President Kamala Harris to the right of him. The Canadian Prime Minister was shown on a monitor at the other end or the table, and on another screen to the left of the president.
Biden, reading from an iPad, told Trudeau that he looks forward "seeing you in person on the future" as soon as they get the pandemic under control.
