White House to ship 3 million to 4 million doses of Johnson & Johnson vaccine to states
BY NATHANIEL WEIXEL - 02/24/21 11:29 AM EST 64

The Biden administration is planning to send states, pharmacies and community health centers 3 million to 4 million doses of Johnson & Johnson's coronavirus vaccine as early as next week, a White House official said Wednesday.

White House COVID-19 response coordinator Jeff Zients told reporters that if the vaccine is authorized by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) this weekend, "we are ready to roll out this vaccine without delay."

Johnson & Johnson said it aims to deliver a total of 20 million doses by the end of March, and 100 million doses by the end of June. Zients said the administration is working with the company to "accelerate the pace and time frame" for the full 100 million doses.

An FDA advisory committee is scheduled to meet on Friday to recommend giving the green light to the Johnson & Johnson vaccine based on its safety and effectiveness.

I'm hoping to get the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine when it comes time for me to get one. My impression is that they're more effective with 2 doses.

I was talking to my PCP the other day, and he thinks these vaccines will be temporary, and we'll need to get revaccinated in 2-3 years.

Just a lot of studies out there that are saying it is way less effective against the new strains. 10% efficacy for the South African strain, if I remember correctly.

I'll wear a mask and continue to shelter at home until I can get one of the 2 dose versions.

Sorry all, personal choice. Not an anti-vaxxer by any means.

I feel like J&J should be on reserve for extreme cases when no better alternative is available. Pfizer and Moderna definitely provide better protection.

I'd hope the FDA and the CIDC both look at the return on investment very carefully.

I'd hate for low-information folks like Jane and Joe Sixpack to get it, have it not be effective, then become rabid anti-vaxxers or worse because of it.

If it is close to being the same efficacy as the 2-Dose then I hope they put the evidence out there for the public to review and trumpet it far and wide to drown out concerns like mine.

My choice.

I wear two masks when out, either walking around the block once a day or I go out to the grocery store for one hour every week; otherwise I have sheltered at home for the last year.
