Biden blasts 'Neanderthal thinking' of governors who lifted covid-19 mandates in Texas, Mississippi

Source: Washington Post

Biden on Wednesday sharply criticized the decisions by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) and Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves (R) one day earlier to lift coronavirus restrictions in their states, calling the moves “a big mistake.”

“Look, I hope everybody’s realized by now these mass make a difference,” Biden told reporters at the White House Wednesday afternoon ahead of a meeting on combating cancer. “We are on the cusp of being able to fundamentally change the nature of this disease because of the way in which we’re able to get vaccines in people’s arms. …

The last thing, the last thing we need is Neanderthal thinking — that, 'In the meantime, everything’s fine. Take off your mask. Forget it.’ It still matters.” Biden added that it is “critical, critical, critical” that state leaders “follow the science” and that Americans continue to wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines. “I know you all know that,” he told reporters. “I wish the heck some of our elected officials would.”

On Tuesday, Abbott ended his state’s mask mandate and boasted in all-caps on Twitter that “Texas is OPEN 100%. EVERYTHING.” Reeves announced similar plans. With both Texas and Mississippi still in the top 10 deaths per capita among U.S. states, health officials have warned that easing restrictions before vaccines have been widely distributed could cause another spike in cases and deaths.

People are good about wearing masks where I live in Atlanta. It is an anomaly to see someone without a mask, and they would stick out like a sore thumb anyway. You do see some inconsiderate people who just have their mouths covered and their noses sticking out, but people without masks are bizarre to see.

Just an hour or so out of Atlanta, it's a different world entirely, though.

I was just reading (I think) Accuweather's site and they were saying how that horrible polar vortex event's effect on Texas was/will be many times worse than the previous multiple years of hurricanes - notably because that event impacted the entire state, and the damage continues to literally rack up daily as more pipes continue to break and roofs collapse... And I know around here in Philly and other northeaster/mid-atlantic cities/states, the potholes have commenced in the streets along with the water main breaks (and our infrastructure was designed for colder temps).

There was a caller to Joe Madison's SiriusXM show this morning who said that the majority of Jackson, MS (in another idiotic state at the moment) still have no potable water.

The last time they did this back in May I think, all hell broke loose as the virus went completely out of control.

They don't get that the vaccine is not some magical "shield". All it will do is reduce the severity of the disease if contracted. It doesn't "cure" it.

And the subject also came up regarding whether other teams would even want to play any of the Texas teams in their home arenas with that type of thing going on, particularly after the fiasco a year ago that helped to shut the whole NBA down -

But it's time to give up the "old-skool" Neanderthal slurs...

I don't care about the recipient of the slur, LMAO...

But over the last 20 years we've learned a LOT about our Neanderthal ancestors.

1) They had larger brains than H. sapiens

2) They were far from stupid. We've found evidence of production of art, burial rituals and evidence of advanced tool making.

3) They didn't get "killed off" by H. sapiens

4) They had better eyesight and hearing than H. sapiens

Tidbits of info:

Neanderthals lived for around 250,000 years (or around 7000 years for my X-Tian friends) and were very resilient when Earth conditions were extremely rugged and harsh.

H. sapiens have only been around for 100,000 years, most of that time spent in warmer climates.

In many ways, Neanderthal were "Supermen"

They had thicker bones, heavier frames, enhanced musculature, great hearing and eyesight and killed large animals in hand to hand combat, probably with spears.

Their lifespan ran up near 50 years and fossil evidence of healed fractures shows the community helped each other, took care of their infirm.

And lastly, Neanderthal made H. sapiens better.

With the mixing of DNA, H. sapiens became more durable, stronger, healthier and more resistant to disease.

SO what killed off the Neanderthal?

Basically they were a high maintenance animal. They lived in small groups. Researchers from the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology suggest that the combination of small population numbers (they never reproduced wildly), inbreeding and frankly, bad luck.

They compare the Neanderthals to modern day Indian Tigers which live in small numbers in isolation... and are ripe for extinction.

So next time someone says "Dumb as a Neanderthal"... slap them and suggest they read a book. Start with reading Svante Paabo.

And I'm afraid that you made a decision to go into a bit of a dissertation on neanderthals (and I am a scientist by the way) based off a tossed off remark by our current President.

Neanderthals as a species are extinct. Fact. The implication by Biden being that the idiocy of the governors of TX and MS suggest that they want to make sure their own populace (of Homo sapiens sapiens) goes "extinct" along with the neanderthals.
